Oceana is a black-owned company (level 1 B-BBEE contributor) with a global presence.These opportunities are available within our Lucky Star Operations and Amawandle Pelagic divisions and will report to either Food Safety & Quality Manager (Amawandle Pelagic) and Quality Assurance Manager (Lucky Star Operations).Purpose Of the RoleTo coordinate the operations of the production function to ensure products are manufactured correctly, cost effectively, on time and in full and in accordance with the quality standards, whilst maximizing plant efficiencies and adhering to systemic process.Key ResponsibilitiesFood Safety Management SystemEstablish, document, implement and maintain a Food Safety Management System.Management of Internal Defects.Ensure all legislative requirements are met in all areas of the plant.Support FSSC 22000 and process control documents.Define the Scope of the Food Safety Management System and specify the products or product categories, processes.Ensure that expected Food safety hazards are identified, evaluated and controlled.Manage communication throughout the food chain regarding safety issues, development, and implementation and updating of the food safety management system.Evaluate periodically and update, when necessary, the food safety management system to ensure that the system reflects all activities and the most recent information on the food safety hazards subject to control.Manage control over any outsourced processes that affect product conformity with requirements.Manage documentation requirements, control of documents and control of records.Management ResponsibilitiesEngage directly with customers in respect of meeting product quality requirements and addressing complaints.Ensure that food safety standards in Cannery processing are met; ensure compliance by processing units to global legal and regulatory standards such as HACCP, TACCP, VACCP, GMP, PRP, NRCS, FDA, HALAAL, KOSHER, R638, R146, FSSC 22000 V6.Verification of packaging, product suppliers, raw material suppliers against established food safety standards.Plan, implement and drive process optimisation projects that lead to cost efficiencies in operations.Manage the Management Commitment to Food Safety and Quality Management System.Define, document and communicate the Food Safety and Quality Policy.Ensure that the Food Safety and Quality Policy is supported by measurable objectives.Food safety Management System Planning.Manage Responsibility and Authority.Food Safety Team Leadership, to report to the Top Management on the effectiveness and suitability of the Food Safety Management System.Manage Internal and External Communication.Establish, implement and maintain procedures to manage potential emergency situations and accidents that can impact Food Safety and Quality.Review the Food Safety and Quality Management System at Planned Intervals, to ensure continuity, adequacy and effectiveness.Assess Opportunities for improvements and the need for the changes to the Food Safety and Quality Management System.Maintain Records from management reviews.Resource ManagementManage Competence, Awareness and Training.Ensure that the personnel responsible for monitoring, correction and corrective actions of Food Safety Management System are trained.Ensure that the requirement for effective communication is understood by all personnel whose activities have an impact on Food Safety.Manage the provision of the resources for the establishment and maintenance of the infrastructure needed to implement the requirements of this international standard.SkillsAbility to read, write, understand and communicate in English, Good numeracy, Good computer literacy - especially Excel and e-mail.
