Conduct Food Safety Inspections: Conduct regular on-site inspections of various food establishments, including restaurants, food processing facilities, retail stores, and other food-related premises. Evaluate food handling, preparation, storage, and sanitation practices to ensure compliance with legal and client specific requirements. Audit Compliance: Verify that food establishments adhere to established food safety and hygiene guidelines, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles, and industry standards. Review documentation and records related to food safety, such as temperature logs, cleaning schedules, employee training records, and pest control reports. Conduct detailed evaluations of food premises, procedures, and practices against pre-determined standards. Conform to client-specific behaviour requirements during audits/visits. Confirm close-out of disputes where applicable. Fill in the Client Confirmation Slip on every audit. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports based on inspections and audits, outlining findings, non-compliances, and recommended corrective actions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all inspections and follow-up actions. Comply with the required turn-around time as per client standard. Training and Education: Conduct training sessions and workshops for food establishment staff on food safety best practices, proper hygiene procedures, and regulatory compliance. Provide guidance and support to food businesses to help them improve their food safety and hygiene practices. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate inspection results and recommendations to relevant client representatives, management teams, and stakeholders. Collaborate with other food safety professionals to exchange information and stay updated on industry trends and best practices. Stay Informed about Regulations: Keep abreast of the latest developments in food safety regulations and industry standards. Continuously update knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in the field. Other: Ensure all equipment used during audits is clean and in a good working condition. Obey all lawful instructions provided by managers. Must wear correct personal protective equipment (PPE). Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates. Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Safety, Environmental Health, Biotechnology or Microbiology. Minimum 2 years' experience inspecting and auditing food establishments. Understanding of the requirements of R638 from the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act 54 of 1972, and Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and regulations. Proven experience in conducting food safety inspections, audits, or related roles within the food industry. Driver's license and own vehicle. Willingness to travel frequently to conduct on-site inspections at various food establishments.
