Do not use SEE RESUME in any of the application fields.*Pre-interview assessment/tests pertinent to the required job skills may be required.THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT CITY OF CAPE CORAL EMPLOYEES AND THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME TO APPLY.About UsThe City of Cape Coral is the seventh largest city in Florida, has over 1,500 full-time employees, provides various career path opportunities, and offers a robust training and development program for improving current talents, developing new skills, and building effective business relationships.Perks and BenefitsFree city-paid employee health coverage, additional for spouse or familyCity Employee Health & Wellness Center for healthcare services5 weeks Paid Time Off (sick & vacation)11 paid holidaysPension planCity-paid life and long-term disability insuranceOptional Vision and Dental PlansTuition reimbursementGym membership reimbursementAnd much more!QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in floodplain management, emergency management, planning, environmental studies, engineering, hydrology/hydraulics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), governmental studies or a related field; Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in floodplain management, emergency management, planning, environmental studies, engineering, hydrology/hydraulics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), governmental studies or a related field and four (4) additional years of related experience; or High School diploma/GED and eight (8) additional years of related experience.Two (2) years of professional level experience in one or more of the following fields: building or construction plan review; elevation certificate review; National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements; Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) interpretation; or assisting in the development and implementation of other floodplain management related programs and/or green building and/or permitting.Licenses or CertificationsCertified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certificate and maintain required continuing education requirements, or obtain and maintain the CFM Certificate within (6) months of hire or promotion.Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.Key ResponsibilitiesReviews and approves floodplain permits for structures within floodplains and inspects developments to determine compliance with the community development standards and NFIP requirements. Duties include establishing base flood elevations (BFEs) in Zone A areas and prohibiting development within floodways.Explains the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program and the community's program to the general public, elected and/or appointed community decision makers, developers, architects, engineers, land surveyors, planners, and the media.Reviews proposed developments to ensure that all necessary permits and approvals have been received from those governmental agencies from which approval is required by Federal or state law, including Section 404 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, modifications to designated historical structures, Executive Order 11988 (Federal floodplain management requirements), and Executive 11990 (protection of wetlands).Please review the full job description by clicking on the link below.
