Our staff enjoy guiding and assisting students. We aim to give incoming first-year students the tools needed to make informed decisions during this transition period and plan their remaining years at the University with ease.Your opportunity:As part of the First Year Office team, you will work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff to provide a transition experience for first-year engineering students that supports engaged learning, academic determination, positive perspective, social connectedness, and diverse citizenship. You will be the first point of contact for new incoming students, welcoming them into the engineering community, providing guidance, and facilitating connections. The First Year Office provides student support through front-line advising, in-depth academic advising, and transition and student success programming.Your responsibilities will include:Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries from first-year studentsOrganizing materials for First Year related workshops, conferences, and/or eventsCreating and updating student recordsCollating and organizing data for various reportsCoordinating appointments to ensure urgent situations are prioritizedResolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as requiredEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experienceMinimum two years' recent and related experience in a front-line service role working directly with students providing program and course information in a university or educational environmentExperience providing front-line student support and information regarding admissions, fees, enrolment, and other student-related issuesExperience working with ROSI and Degree Explorer or equivalent student information systemsExperience with Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering academic policies, procedures, regulations, and program offeringsExcellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skillsIntermediate skills in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPointAbility to work independently and as a team memberProven ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacyAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesAbility to exercise patience, compassion, sympathy, and empathyCommitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environmentAssets (Nonessential):Experience creating databases and developing and maintaining websitesTo be successful in this role you will be:Closing Date: 10/16/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - ContinuingSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 09 -- $66,715. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $85,319.
