Position: Firmware Engineer – Avionics & Mission Systems

Incomar is looking for a motivated individual to perform detailed firmware designs and simulations for avionics and mission computing modules.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, or a relevant related tertiary qualification.
Required Skills and Experience:
3+ years of VHDL based firmware development experience (preferably in a defence and aerospace environment using VHDL and targeting Xilinx & Microchip devices).
Firmware architecture design & development skills.
Proficient in VHDL programming.
Proficient in Firmware simulation and testbench design.
Proficient in Firmware synthesis and place and route design processes.
Knowledge or experience in embedded firmware IP modules (e.g. Processors, communication modules).
Experience in implementation, integration & testing of firmware on the target hardware.
Proficient in required design & simulation packages (e.g. ModelSim, Questa simulator, HDL Designer, MATLAB, FPGA Synthesis and Place & Route tools).
Sound understanding of current digital hardware implementation techniques (specifically FPGA, SOC & Processor designs) and able to read and interpret electronic schematic diagrams.
Product development and system engineering skills involving all aspects of the "V" life cycle and the system engineering management process.
Proficient in requirements management (experience with Cradle/Jama/Doors preferable, but not mandatory).
Configuration / version control experience (GIT & GITLab).
Proficient in MS Office.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Military, Defence Industry and/or Avionics development experience preferable.
Knowledge or experience in System on Chip (SOC) targeted firmware development, specifically for Xilinx Zynq and Ultrascale devices.
Knowledge or experience in embedded software development.
Knowledge or experience in digital hardware development.
Knowledge or experience in the RTCA DO-254 design process.
Knowledge or experience in the RTCA DO-178B/C design process.
Responsibilities:
Performing firmware design activities, including architecture, coding, simulation, synthesis and place & route design aspects.
Conducting firmware development according to the "V" product development life cycle and system engineering management process.
Performing hardware / software integration, testing and debugging.
Writing and maintaining specifications related to firmware development activities.
Writing and maintaining firmware test and verification documentation.
Writing and maintaining firmware design and interface documentation.
Perform, execute and document firmware compliance, verification, validation and qualification activities.
Configuration and version management of firmware designs and simulations.
Simulation, data analysis and report writing applicable to allocated tasks.
Ensuring that customer requirements and applicable standards are met.
Planning and executing tasks within agreed to budgets and timescales.
Contribute towards the improvement and elaboration of firmware design and development processes & tools.
Apply sound ethical principles.
