Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling.As our Fire Prevention Coordinator, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:Safety, Health, and EnvironmentAdhere to health and safety practices while promoting good housekeeping to create a controlled risk environment where team members can effectively deliver their outputs.Discuss any violations and unsafe conditions with the section representative and provide recommendations and guidance on fire safety practices.Present and explain fire/life safety codes and fire prevention information to facility management at the mine.Regularly perform PTOs to ensure adherence to the fire prevention program.Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Fire Prevention and MaintenancePlan, coordinate and implement fire safety programs and policies.Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and develop mitigation strategies.Manage fire safety equipment and systems and ensure proper maintenance and functionality.Develop and maintain fire safety plans, protocols and procedures.Conduct fire drills and tabletop exercises to test emergency response plans.Investigate fire incidents, determine causes and recommend preventive measures.Apply engineering principles to design, install, and maintain fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and smoke detection systems.Strictly adhere to local, national, and international fire codes, standards, and regulations.Refine and implement comprehensive emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire drills, and crisis management protocols.Develop and deliver comprehensive fire safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.Regularly inspect buildings, structures, and equipment to identify and eliminate fire hazards.Coordinate the maintenance and testing of fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, and other fire protection equipment.Attend training sessions to stay updated on fire prevention, safety, and firefighting procedures.Stakeholder CollaborationCollaborate with other departments, such as operations, maintenance, and security, to ensure fire safety is integrated into all business aspects.Develop and maintain partnerships with local fire departments, emergency response teams, and other stakeholders.Performance MeasurementMonitor and track KPIs to measure the effectiveness of fire prevention and maintenance programs, including fire incident rates, compliance with regulations, and employee satisfaction with fire safety training.Implement a continuous improvement process to identify opportunities for enhancing fire safety performance.Prepare detailed reports on fire safety performance, including incident reports, inspection reports, and training records.Team LeadershipLead and manage a team of fire prevention personnel.Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews to ensure team members meet their objectives.Conduct comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of fire safety personnel.Foster a positive work environment and promote employee engagement through effective communication and recognition.Resolve conflicts and disputes among team members to maintain a harmonious work environment.Prioritize the health and well-being of fire prevention personnel while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.This role is in SHE Department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Section Manager Emergency & Security Services.QualificationsGrade 12/ N3 TechnicalRelevant Higher National Qualification in Fire Science, Emergency Management or related field on NQF6Registered with SAQCC & SAESIIFE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Science, Operations, Fire Safety and Management (VRQ)Basic Ambulance Assistant CertificateDriver's Licence: Code CTechnical Knowledge5 years of experience in firefighting, prevention, and maintenance.In-depth understanding of fire safety regulations, codes, and standards.Demonstrated knowledge of planning and implementing effective fire safety programs and policies.Knowledge of effective communication and interpersonal skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office and various fire safety management software.Understanding effective leadership styles, team-building techniques, and conflict-resolution strategies.Understanding the company's organisational structure, decision-making frameworks, and core values for effective team management.How to applyTo apply for this role, please complete our online application form.
