Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Investment Professional at the Associate Principal Level to join our dynamic team. This role encompasses four key focus areas: Investment, Portfolio Management (PM), Senior Clients/Investors Relations, and Team Management. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the viability of our investees while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.
The Edge Ignite Fund is a highly impactful, multi-investor fund dedicated to financing developmental Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in mining communities. Our focus is on supporting majority black-owned SMEs with a turnover of less than R50 million, empowering them to unlock new revenue streams and enhance their operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities: Investment: Support due diligence and structuring of short-term (ST) and medium-term (MT) deals for SMEs.
Review proposed deals and provide recommendations to the Investment Committee.
Engage with SMEs and mentors regarding application outcomes, offering feedback on the investment pipeline.
Manage relationships with allocated investees, reviewing their financial and operational performance.
Address growth challenges and devise repayment plans for missed repayments.
Provide insights on portfolio health and performance to the Executive Investment Officer.
Senior Clients/Investors Relations: Support the Executive Investment Officer in managing existing client and investor relationships.
Provide input for documentation and address inquiries from investors.
Assist in engaging potential investors based on experience with existing stakeholders.
Team Management: Collaborate with leadership to develop the investment and PM teams.
Assist in the hiring process for new team members and leverage organizational resources for effective transaction management.
RequirementsQualification: South African citizen
BCOM Finance, Business, or a related field
MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred
Experience: Minimum 6 years of experience in developmental investing or lending focused on Micro and Small enterprises across the full deal lifecycle.
Proven track record and strong understanding of working with SMEs, particularly those in resource-dependent sectors.
Proven experience in investment analysis, portfolio management, and client relations, ideally within a developmental finance context.
Experience in impact venture capital/private equity, particularly with early-stage Micro and Small enterprises.
Background in development finance, managing the full deal lifecycle from origination to exit or write-off.
Proven track record of negotiating and closing transactions, with a focus on ensuring SME repayments.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with complex stakeholders.
