Company Overview:Our client, in the Solar Engineering industry based in Johannesburg (Roodepoort) delivers reliable power backup solutions through customised diesel generator canopies tailored to meet diverse industry needs.
With a strong customer base in the telecom sector, the company also supports industries such as mining, agriculture, construction, film, and hospitality.
As the business continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced and dynamic Financial Manager to join their team.Role Overview:The Financial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, optimizing financial performance, and providing strategic financial insights to support the business.
This role requires an understanding of manufacturing finance and cost control.Key Responsibilities:Financial Planning and Asset Management:Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in alignment with strategic goals.Managing the company's cash flow, liquidity, and investments to ensure sufficient funds are available to meet its operational and strategic needs while maximizing returns on surplus cash.Optimise working capital by managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory turnover.Assist the CCO in determining the company's proper capital structure.Ensure assets are appropriately valued and registered.Develop and monitor existing internal processes to ensure that suppliers are paid within 30 days.Ensure that monthly submissions to relevant authorities are made, e.g.
SARS etcKey Metrics and Reporting:Track, analyse, and report key business metrics such as production efficiency, inventory turnover, and profit margins.Provide regular updates on financial health, identifying trends and areas for improvement.Collaborate with operational teams to ensure alignment between financial and production goals.Maintain accuracy of accounting system, and financial interface with other systems.Cost Management:Analyse manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labour, and overheads, to ensure cost efficiency.Oversee cost accounting processes and implement strategies to reduce production costs without compromising quality.Track and manage inventory valuation and ensure alignment with financial reporting.Financial Reporting and Compliance:Prepare monthly management accounts and oversee and implement quality and timeous accounting with analysis and interpretation of variances presented to executive management.Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS standards.Manage tax compliance, including VAT, corporate tax, and other applicable taxes, ensuring timely filings and adherence to local regulations.Liaise with auditors to facilitate annual audits and address audit findings.Finance Team Operations:Manage the Payroll Coordinator responsible for the payroll function for approximately 250 supported employees and staff.Manage the workload and outputs of the finance team to ensure financial processes and records are maintained and delivered in an accurate and timely manner for:Monthly payment of creditor accounts within trading terms.Production and distribution of invoices for goods and services rendered no later than 5 working days from the date of providing service.Management of debtors within acceptable trading terms (no later than 45 days) and work with debtors to reduce outstanding debts to current trading terms.Ensure that monthly reconciliations of all financial accounts, including creditors, accruals, general ledger, and bank accounts, are performed and reviewed promptly.Overseeing and authorising financial transactions ensuring all staff work within their financial delegations.Preparation of fixed asset registerPreparation of the PAYE employee payroll remittances to SARSGoods and Services Tax (GST)Preparation of the monthly VAT as prescribed by SARS for approval by the CCO in a timely manner.Payroll services including payroll systems, maintenance of employee databases and entitlements, and the management of Fringe Benefits as they relate to employee entitlements and employer requirements.Stakeholder Relationships:Building and maintaining relationships with investors, and other stakeholders to communicate the company's financial performance, strategy, and outlook effectively.Maintain and improve banking relationships by liaising with the company's bankers and investment managers to keep them abreast of the company's finances and requirements and take responsibility for documentation and financial transactions between the company and these parties.Manage the complaints, compliments, and feedback process relating to the finance business unit to ensure timely resolution and contribution to continuous quality improvement.Risk Management:Identify financial risks related to operations, markets, and compliance, and develop mitigation strategies.Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.Working with tax experts to develop tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.Oversee organisational insurance policies.Promote a risk-aware culture by ensuring identified risks are managed appropriately based on their assigned risk ratings.Monitor for irregularities and risk, and provide timely advice to the CCO on matters of concern that could adversely impact the organisation.Ensure finance team staff are appropriately trained and credentialed to facilitate a well-controlled financial environment.Manage and monitor the financial aspects of contracts, tenders, and service-level agreements.Requirements:Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field (CA or CIMA preferred).Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in manufacturing or industrial sectors.Familiarity with diesel generator manufacturing or similar industries is a plus.Serve as primary liaison to legal counsel in addressing legal issues.Technical Skills:Proficient in financial software systems such as Xero and ERP systems such as Cin Core 7 (Dear Systems)Strong understanding of cost accounting and manufacturing financial metrics.Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modelling.Key Competencies:Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders.Attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced
