Permanent - Financial Manager - Johannesburg (Incl. Northern Suburbs) - South AfricaJob Mission / Objective: Ensuring that all transactions (financial and non-financial) and reports are correct, accurate and recorded in terms of IFRS and relevant laws concerning Banks and other regulations governing companies in South Africa. Reports to Chief Financial Officer. Accountable to: Shareholder, Internal audit committee and to the Board of Directors.
Impact on Business Results: Accurate and timely reporting of business performance to management, Financial information to be used for ALCCO, SARB, SARS and shareholder. Implementation of controls to ensure all SA taxes (VAT, income tax, capital gains, WHT etc.) are accurately recorded, collected and paid over to SARS. Ensure that appropriate controls are in place to safeguard all Bank assets.
Figures Affected by the Role (KPIs): Quantitative: Revenue, Opex, Capital TaxQualitative: Reconciliations of General ledger to all subsystems, Management reports, Shareholder reports, VAT management, VAT and Income Tax returns, Balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, specially control accounts and all COMPANY office accounts, Understanding COMPANY's revenues, costs and ratios.Main Responsibilities: Accurate, appropriate and timely reporting to management, regulatory bodies, and shareholder.Ensuring all commentary and resolution of queries are addressed.Ensuring that the data used to prepare required reports is reconciled and that numbers reported in each report are reconciled to each other i.e. Management accounts vs. IFRS vs. US GAAP. (all reporting) and subsystems.All payments made are valid and approved.Understanding the month-on-month expense movements and ensuring the revenues reported are correct and complete and variances are understood.Ensuring that all statutory reporting and payments made accurately and timely. This relates all taxes.Facilitate year-end audit and preparation of annual financial statements.Assist the business and the CFO in the annual budgets and ensuring the budgets are complete and accurate.Ensuring all controls within finance are appropriate and followed consistently. This would relate to journal review and sign off, all balance sheet reconciliation reviews and sign off, all expenses approved within relevant policies, safeguarding and recording of fixed assets and taxes calculated accurately and paid timeously (VAT and income tax returns).Reconciliation of all sub systems and reconciliation of relevant general ledger accounts on a monthly basis to sub systems and supporting documentation.Enhancement of controls within and around Great Plains.Using Great Plains to write management reports, variance reports and monitor variance to budget.Attend Banking Association meetings relating to Finance and taxes.Forecast and planning Identifying controls and implementation thereof System interdependencies Payments to third parties IFRS, GAAP and US GAAP reporting compliance Income Tax and VAT and all other taxes Reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and data to supporting documentation.Keeping up to date with industry developments i.e. income tax and IFRS and VAT Updating and improvement of processes and procedures.Updating policies.Assist and train staff on how to perform their functions accurately more effectively.Ensure staff continuity is in place so that deadlines are not missed and to ensure knowledge is transferred between staff.Training on policies and procedures.Other Role Elements: Internal: Need to be able to communicate to all levels of staff within all departments of COMPANY. Also interaction with ALCO, Internal Audit Committee, and Board will be required. External: SARB, SARS, Shareholder Finance division, Divisions of COMPANY, alliance partners, and creditors...
Academic Knowledge: CA(SA) or equivalent. Good working knowledge of IFRS, IAS, GAAP, US GAAP, Income Tax Act.
Work Experience: Min 5 years in reporting at BS and IS level and managing core finance deliverables and staff. Understand banking.
Skills / Specialized Know-How: Have a good understanding of accounting and payment systems, excellent skills in excel, understand the importance of controls and be able to implement them. Great Plains General ledger system and advanced excel.
Competencies: Manage people at different levels, work under pressure and deadlines, meticulous and attention to detail, forward planning, good interpersonal and communication skills.
