ENVIRONMENT: A dynamic, family-owned agricultural business in Johannesburg is seeking a Financial Accountant. The successful candidate will manage and analyse the organization's financial records, prepare financial statements, ensure compliance with relevant regulations, and provide insights into the company's financial health. Responsibilities include recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and generating reports for stakeholders. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required, and having completed Articles will be advantageous. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in a financial role.
DUTIES: Managing the general ledger to ensure all transactions are properly classified and recorded. Generating periodic financial statements such as the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Analysing financial data to identify trends, variances, and anomalies. Ensuring compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations (e.g., International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)). Adhering to relevant tax laws and regulations. Compiling interim internal audit and assisting external auditors during audits by providing documentation and explanations. Implementing and maintaining internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data. Calculating and preparing tax returns for the organization. Ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations and identifying opportunities for tax optimization. Reviewing & publishing monthly management accounts. Monthly upkeep of fixed asset register. Monthly upkeep of hire purchase register and amortisation schedule reconciliation. Key Responsibilities: Financial system management: Establish and maintain a management information system. Optimising systems, reporting and procedures. Financial planning and reporting: Audited financial statements to be finalised within 3 months after year-end. Provide accurate financial reports and schedules as required. Assist managers on projects. Initiate cost saving initiatives. Operations: Ensure all taxation matters are in order and correctly and timeously submitted to SARS. REQUIREMENTS: Required skills / abilities: Accounting Expertise. Strong knowledge of financial regulations. Proficiency in financial software and tools. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting. Articles will be advantageous. 3-5 years' experience in a financial role. Advanced computer literacy. ATTRIBUTES: Attention to detail and accuracy. Ethical responsibility in financial matters. Collaboration with cross-functional teams. Compliance with financial regulations and reporting. Effective communication with stakeholders.
