Job Description This role is for a financial accountant position in the Old Mutual Multi-Manager finance team and will support the business by being responsible for financial accounting for statutory and management purposes. The financial accountant will be expected to provide support to the senior financial accountant and coach and guide the assistant financial accountant in the team.
This role requires an initiative-taking individual that enjoys engaging with various stakeholders across the organisation on various business financial related matters. The successful candidate will be required to partner with the team in modernising and strengthening our control environment and all required reporting. The candidate also needs to have a demonstrable affinity to work with data, process automation, reporting efficiencies, and improvements.
Key responsibilities will include amongst others: Takes ownership of the bookkeeping and processing function from General ledger to Trial balance.Responsible for financial reporting activities which includes fee income and fee expense calculations, management reporting on Flows and Assets under Management.Review, analyse, explain monthly movements for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. Discrepancies are investigated, followed up and corrected. New or changes to products and funds are understood and accounted for accurately.Liaise with operations and product teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reporting.Completion of Group Reporting processes and regulatory submissions.Prepare monthly financial reports for management.Tax: Five Funds tax calculations, preparation of tax information for submission to the Group Tax team and providing inputs in the VAT submission process. Completion of income tax and VAT returns to SARS.Independently responsible of various monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.Expense monitoring and control, including variance analysis and commentary.Provides data and insight into preparation of the Business Plan.Ability to work with complex financial data sets and provide insights and recommendations.Completion / assistance with adhoc tasks, providing input into adhoc projects or analysis, directly within or outside of the broader business or Finance team.Strong collaboration skills to discuss and propose solutions with various members of the broader business and finance team.Generates internal management reports.Maintaining and seeking to improve the financial control environment.Responsibility for audit liaisons which contribute to timeous Group audit sign off.Drive process improvements and efficiencies.Provides training and support to junior staff members, to ensure accurate and timely reporting and effective operational delivery.Interpretation of complex financial data and predictive results, providing commentary on financial results and implications and advises on corrective action to be taken.Team Effectiveness Drive process improvements and simplification in accounting. This includes automation projects and the preparation and maintenance of detailed workflows.Effective time-management.Individually accountable for tasks and output timeliness and quality.Enhance and improve team and group collaboration efforts.Qualification, Skills and Experience: BCom (Acc) or similar, with articles is desirable.5+ years of experience in a similar role.Financial Services essential, with background to asset management experience preferred.Demonstrable aptitude to various IT applications and platforms.Intermediate Excel skills required, PowerBi skills preferred.Oracle and HFM experience is desirable.Ability to work with complex financial data sets.Strong work ethic, initiative-taking and demonstrable high standards of achievement.Strong people skills and ability to work in diverse teams as well as independently.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deliveries with tight deadlines.Closing Date: 25 October 2024
