With nearly 1500MW of generation capacity in operation across 16 power plants in 7 countries, 488MW of new power projects in construction and >2,000MW in development, Globeleq is one of the largest independent power producers solely focused in Africa. Globeleq is 70% owned by British International Investment and 30% by Norfund, the development finance institutions of the UK and Norway, and has a proven track record for supporting the ongoing development of the African power sector.Globeleq's various generation technologies include gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and geothermal. The company is also actively pursuing new opportunities which are emerging from the energy transition, including desalination projects powered by renewables, as well as green hydrogen and ammonia projects.In this role, the Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring that the accounting and financial reporting for Globeleq managed operating power plants and holding companies are maintained accurately and timeously.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and Manage transactional and reporting processes:Complete all calculations and capture necessary month end entries including accruals, tax, deferred tax, intercompany transactions, etc.Invoicing of revenue and preparation of monthly entriesMaintain fixed asset registers, including creation of new assets and disposalsPrepare balance sheet and key income statement reconciliationsPrepare the finance inputs and analysis for monthly shareholder and stakeholder reports and board reports including explanations of key variancesComplete year end packsResponsible for completion and filing of tax returns including VAT, Income Tax, WHT, etc.Cash Flow Management:Ensure timeous receipts of debtors' balance and creditor paymentsMaintain debt schedules and repayment of debtStatutory and Compliance Reporting:Ad hoc compliance reports from various institutions including Stats SA, NERSA, etc.Report procurement spend for the quarter to the economic development teamBudgeting and Forecasting:Complete budget reporting templatesUpload of budgets into the accounting systemStatutory Audit:Providing supporting documentation and answering queries on the year end auditAssisting the financial statement consultant with drafting queries on the annual financial statementsSupport the Broader Team:Ad hoc support to the finance and operations team on items including but not limited to: BBBEE reporting, vendor management, Economic Development reporting, etc.Undertake ad hoc finance responsibilities in support of the Globeleq group, as appropriateSkills, Knowledge and ExpertiseSkills and Competencies:Sound technical, business and financial reporting skillsExcellent attention to detailDelivery-oriented, able to manage time, prioritize and to adhere to strict deadlinesAble to solve problems logicallyExcellent verbal communication; includes being responsive, having good listening skills and being able to communicate appropriately with all levels of personnelExcellent written communication; includes writing clear, concise e-mails and report-writingExcellent team player; able to balance team and individual responsibilitiesAble to self-manage and work well independentlyAble and willing to learn quicklyComfortable working in a fast-paced and challenging environmentExperience, Knowledge and Qualifications:Minimum CA(SA) with 1 year of post article experience as a financial accountant outside of an audit firm OR undergraduate degree majoring in Accounting, with 5 minimum years relevant financial accountant experience in a commercial or corporate environmentRelevant experience working with Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint)Relevant working experience with an ERP systemRelevant working experience loading payments on a banking profileKnowledge of financial systems, financial processes and internal control mechanismsExperience in a shared services environment is an advantageExperience in a multi-company or multi-entity is an advantageExperience in an asset-intensive organisation is an advantage
