Chemonics seeks a Finance and Administrative Assistant for the USAID/Southern Africa Countering Wildlife Crime (CWC) Activity.
The purpose of the five-year Countering Wildlife Crime Activity is to reduce threats to and protect biodiversity from wildlife crimes in Southern Africa.
This position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Responsibilities include: Collect and record information related to project financial documentsRecord expenditures in ABACUS, the project's financial management systemPrepare the cash/bank reconciliation at the end of each month to close the month's booksTrack sub ledger balances, including receivable accounts for individual staff, such as outstanding travel advances, vehicle mileage, and personal telephone usePrepare invoices for accounts receivables on a monthly basisMaintain proper financial data and financial files to ensure the maintenance of proper accounting documentationAssist the Finance Manager with financial reporting and analysisProcess expense reports, complete bank reconciliations, and draft financial projectionsEnter accounting transactions into accounting software; provide a primary review of transactions as requiredReview procurement and other transactions to ensure all supporting documentation is attached and approvals are sufficientContribute to the bank reconciliation process as a primary reviewerPrepare monthly wire transfer requests through a thorough analysis of projected project expendituresSupport the Finance Manager in invoice management by reviewing and monitoring monthly invoicesEnsure that all financial transactions and practices adhere to USAID and Chemonics' regulationsReview accounting files to ensure that appropriate back-up documentation exists for all transactions, including procurement requests, timesheets, approvals, bids, invoices, and receiptsAssist with maintaining the project electronic and hardcopy filing system for finance filesPerform other duties as assigned by the Finance ManagerQualifications: Bachelor's degree required in business management, accounting or a related fieldAt least two years of relevant bookkeeping, financial management and/or accounting experience; previous experience on a USAID-funded project is preferredKnowledge of basic accounting and accounting practices is required, as well as general accounting best practices in South AfricaAbility to work in a professional and cordial manner with fellow staff members, visitors, the public, and partner institutions including international and local NGOs, and governmental entitiesAbility to effectively use computer software including financial management applications and Microsoft Office.
