Description of PositionThe Field Mechanic inspects machines for preventative maintenance, diagnoses problems for repairs on breakdownsand plans all relevant work in conjunction with site programs.Qualification, Experience and Technical Requirement- Red Seal Qualification- Minimum of 3 years post red seal experience- Minimum of 3 years experience with Asphalt Machinery/Plant/Equipment- Code 10 LicenceSpecial Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English language)- Read electrical and hydraulic diagrams- Occupational Health and Safety Act and safe work procedures- Understand and apply mechanical principles- Knowledge of machines and tools including uses, operation, repair and maintenance- Troubleshooting and identifying causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it- Repairing and maintaining Mechanical Equipment (Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines andequipment)- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job (Equipment selection)- Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment using direct physical activity- Planning, organizing, prioritizing and time management skillsRoles and Responsibilities- Diagnosing and Repairingo Inspect all equipment on site for defects or required repairs in conjunction with fault list from FieldAgento Trouble shoot all breakdownso Repair breakdowns and perform preventative maintenance and repairo Observe specifications, standards and procedures when carrying out repairso Inspect condition of tyres on vehicleso Test safe stop weeklyo Collect oil sample of components and send away for testing; investigate and provide feedback onoil sample results to Field Agento Advise Plant Field Agent when assistance is needed with troubleshooting, sparesand/or repairs.- Planning of Worko Complete preventative and reactive maintenance in conjunction with site production programo Advise the Site Foreman/General Foreman/Site Agent of required services, repairs and majorbreakdownso Attend site production meetings to discuss service schedules, site programs,preventative maintenance- Communicationo Communicate with operators regarding problems with equipmento Report all break-downs on a daily basis to Plant Field Agento Communicate operator absenteeism to Plant Field Agento Report all normal wear, tyre damage and tear tyre replacements to Field Agento Report any misuse and abuse of Plant to Site and Field Agents- Safety and Environmento Conduct regular inspections of safety guards and devices on mobile as well as stationary planto Maintain safe working conditionso Maintain and secure work tools and company property; Clean oil spills and keep work area cleano Attend to any safety aspects arising from Safety meetingso Check that relevant safety certificates are on notice board and are still valid (compressor testcertificate; lifting chain/sling certificate; certificate for relevant first aid person)o Ensure Workshop Assets List appears on notice boardo Check Assets list to ensure equipment is in safe working order- Personnel Managemento Provide instruction and monitor performance of subordinateso Supervise Service Mechanic; assist when needed and act on problems reportedo Supervise Workshop Clerk and assist when neededo Authorize all spares required by Service Mechanico Check timesheets of sub-ordinates fortnightlyo Check that month-end forms have been completed by Workshop Clerko Lay disciplinary charges with Site Agent/Line Manager- On-the-Job training and support of apprenticesRemuneration and Contract- 12 Month Limited Duration Contract- Basic Salary: R27 000 R33 000 CTC (Dependent on Experience)- Willing to relocate- Preference will be given to Designated Group Candidates
