Medical Aid rate based on principal member only): To be confirmedAdvert Closing Date: 23/10/2024Job Purpose:Reporting to the Dean, the incumbent will be responsible for promoting research and scholarship in the Faculty through developing the research capacity and skills of the academic staff and students in order to achieve the targeted research outputs of the Faculty; achieving postgraduate enrolments and graduation goals; and promoting innovation and technology transfer.Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:A Doctoral degree in a discipline applicable to the Faculty of Applied SciencesActive involvement in research with a publication track record commensurate with Associate Professor level at CPUTAt least 10 years' relevant teaching and/or research experience in a tertiary institution or research instituteKnowledge of DHET subsidy and other funding systemsExperience in the administration and management of researchKey Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities:Overall leadership and responsibility for Research, Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (RTIP) in the Faculty, with oversight from Dean, and in close liaison with the DVC-RTIP and associated RTI directoratesAssist the Dean in compiling and driving an overall research strategy for the FacultyImplement and ensure Faculty adherence to CPUT RTIP policiesPlan and provide oversight, in conjunction with department heads, to Adjunct-professors, research fellows, and postdoctoral fellowsCo-ordinate and facilitate the allocation and appropriation of research funds within the facultyEnsure an enabling environment for ResearchersSupport Research uptake initiativesDrive the growth of innovationPromote RTI related partnershipsOversee the implementation of staff RTIP related capacity developmentMaintain quality, retain postgraduate students, and increase postgraduate intake and outputCreate an enabling research infrastructure in the facultyRepresent the Faculty in appropriate CommitteesMeasure and report on RTIP progress to the Dean, Faculty Board, and relevant Institutional CommitteesBuilding partnershipsCoaching and mentoringGood organizational and planning skillsDeveloping othersStrong student focusFacilitating changeManaging conflictStrategic decision making
