The Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria invites applications for a two-year limited-term Assistant Teaching Professor position to commence July 1, 2025. The successful applicant will be expected to teach 7 term-length courses per year (typically a 3-3-1 distribution with the ability to teach more than one class per course topic). Teaching assignments will include core undergraduate courses in Statistics and/or Research Methods and at least one of the stream areas of Lifespan Development or Mind and Brain. Limited-Term Assistant Teaching Professors in Psychology are not expected to supervise graduate or undergraduate student research but can serve on students' committees if desired.
The candidate's qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate's final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $102,000 - $125,000 at the Assistant Rank. RequirementsRequired education: Qualified candidates will have a PhD in Psychology or a related field at the time of appointment.
Required experience and skills in teaching: Qualified candidates will demonstrate high-quality teaching in topics related to Statistics and/or Research Methods as well as one of Lifespan Development or Mind and Brain psychology.

Demonstrates outstanding teaching abilities through their teaching materials, testimonials (student feedback, peer feedback, letters from referees), or other forms of documentation such as a teaching certification.Has experience or interest in teaching large undergraduate classes.Demonstrates recognition of and openness to the diversity of student perspectives, experiences, and cultural contexts.Demonstrates recognition of power differentials within classroom dynamics, and respectful relationships with students.Required experience and skills in scholarly activity: Qualified candidates will demonstrate a record of or interest in engaging in activities that enhance teaching ability or effectiveness.
Examples:
Mastery of one's field of knowledge and awareness of current scholarship in one's area of specialization.Record of or interest in independent research on the scholarship of teaching and learning.Activities related to enhancing one's ability to engage in research-enriched teaching.Demonstrates an openness to equity and inclusivity in teaching and learning, especially with respect to goals of decolonization and Indigenizing the curriculum.Innovative and culturally grounded teaching and/or research background that demonstrates expertise in studying Indigenous and/or multicultural approaches to psychology.Required knowledge and expertise: Qualified candidates will demonstrate expertise in their subject area.
Examples:
Expertise in a field of study that contributes to the diversity of perspectives in psychology.A background or interest in topics taught at the undergraduate level within the lifespan stream such as infant and child development, adolescent development, and adult development, or within the mind and brain stream which may include cognitive psychology, human neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, and biological psychology.Required experience and skills in service: Qualified candidates will demonstrate potential for collaboration and positive contributions to the department and university.

Department of Psychology
In the Department of Psychology we strongly value candidates who share our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and scholarship and using scholarship to inform teaching. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with a core group of dedicated Teaching Professors. For our undergraduate program, we offer Bachelors of Arts and Sciences, an Honours program, and combined majors with Biology and Computer Science. Our undergraduate curriculum has four major streams: Lifespan, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Mind and Brain, and Social. Active extracurricular programs include the Psychology Organization of Undergraduate Students (PUGS), and Psi Chi, the International Honours Society for Psychology. For our graduate program, we offer master's and doctoral programs in Cognition and Brain Sciences, Lifespan Health and Development, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Individualized Programs.
