Faculty Language Coordinator Informatics & Design (3-year contract)Internal Vacancy within the Faculty of Informatics & Design - (7338)Job PurposeThe Faculty of Informatics & Design is looking to appoint a Faculty Language Coordinator for a period of three (3) years on a portfolio basis in which the incumbent will retain 50% of their current academic workload and take additional responsibilities for the Faculty Language Coordinator role. The purpose of the post is to promote good language and social transformation practices in the faculty through the implementation and coordination of strategies and projects to realize a conducive environment for teaching and learning by providing leadership and mentorship to support various Language and Transformation initiatives. This position is vital to the achievement of excellence in Teaching & Learning practices in the faculty.Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceA Master's Degree in a discipline applicable and related to the Faculty of Informatics & Design (i.e., Media, Information Technology, Design, Urban & Regional Planning & Architectural Technology)(Please note: The incumbent should complete/register for a Doctorate degree while in the position)At least four (4) years' relevant experience in Higher EducationRecommendationsProficiency in two or more of the regional languages in the Western Cape, one of which is EnglishSuccessful supervision of post-graduates to completionA research record in the area of Linguistics (i.e., publications in accredited journals, conference presentations)Experience in management and administration in the facultyExposure in managing projects and programmesExposure in proposal writing and research funding applicationsExperience in managing a budgetKey Performance Areas / Principal AccountabilitiesCoordination of the Language and Transformation activities within the facultyResponsible for the implementation and coordination of strategies and projects in the facultyCommunication and coordination of policies and procedures in the facultyProvide leadership and mentorship to support various Language and Transformation initiativesEnsure compliance and enhancement in alignment with relevant institutional policies and strategiesMonitor, review and report on all Language and Transformation activities in the facultyProvide administrative and development support to students and staff across the facultyCoordinate Lecturing in professional communication across the FacultyCoordinate and implement language development initiatives for staffCoordinate and implement language development programmes for studentsCoordinate and chair the faculty language committee meetings and report to Faculty ManagementServe as the Faculty representative at all related institutional committeesSecure funding for language and transformation development interventionsParticipate in Quality assurance activities within the portfolioLiaison with all the language lecturers in the faculty about needs and supportKeep a Departmental academic workload (i.e., lecture, supervise, research)Perform other functions as may be assigned by Line ManagerInitiative and proactive thinkingTechnical/Professional skillsStudent focusInterpersonal skillsCoaching & Mentoring skillsAbility to work in a teamAbility to work independently with minimum supervisionReport, policy and proposal writing skillsGood time managementBudgeting and Administration skillsAptitude for continuous learningAbility to work under pressureGeneral InformationClosing Date: 06 September 2024For enquiries and assistance with your online application, please contact Mr. Jabu Makhambi at ******: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW APPLICANTS TO UPLOAD CVs.
