Job Purpose: This post is for an existing faculty staff member who will remain as an academic with half an academic load and take on this additional ECP portfolio at the faculty level.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: A relevant Doctoral qualification related to the programmes within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment.At least 4 years lecturing experience within a Higher education environment, including first year teaching.A demonstrated understanding of transitions into Engineering, how to facilitate student access to the field and engagement with issues of student learning or innovative curriculum design.Evidence of an understanding of the history, intentions, structure and function of the extended programmes.Recommendations: Candidate must be registered or registrable with the Professional body (if not registered must apply for registration within 12 months of the appointment).Completed either TDP or HDET or equivalent.A track record of conference presentations and/or published work in the last 5 years.Evidence of the ability to work with disadvantaged students.An ability to communicate in two regional languages in addition to English.An understanding of the importance of epistemological access and academic literacy.Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities: ECP staff in the Faculty meet on a regular basis to share and build on practices, with primary emphasis on curriculum development, foundation provisions, and student support.Plan and lead ECP staff development initiatives with the Institutional ECP Coordinator and relevant HODs.Ensure that the selection and placement of students onto the ECP is done according to Faculty, Institutional, and DHET ECP guidelines, and together with departmental coordinators ensure that ECP enrolment targets are met and monitored.DHET funding is appropriately allocated to departmental cost centres and work with HODs to ensure that it is correctly and timeously spent.ECP student progress is monitored and required support or curriculum changes are initiated to meet student needs.On-going ECP project management and review including investigations of ECP student retention and success within and beyond the programmes compared to the normal programme.Ensure that innovative best practices in ECP teaching, learning, and assessment are promoted.Programme reports are submitted to the Institutional ECP Coordinator and DHET as required.Serve as the faculty liaison to other institutional committees on matters related to ECP.Maintain a departmental academic load (i.e., lecture at least one subject; supervise PG students).General Skills Required: Language proficiency in English.Good communication and presentation skills.Report writing skills.Good organizational and planning skills.Experience in training and/or curriculum development.Leadership and management skills.Computer literacy in MS Office suite.Strong learner focus.Initiative and decision-making skills.Good interpersonal and listening skills.Coaching and mentoring skills.Aptitude for continuous learning.General Information: Closing Date: 10 November 2024
