National group are seeking an experienced Factory Manager to manage all the major functions of the factory in order to produce products effectively, efficiently and safely whilst ensuring the productivity and well-being of all employees
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Planning, organizing, formulating, directing and controlling the production activities
Monitors bark deliveries and forwards concerns and disputes regarding quotas and gradingMonitors requirement, usage, orders and deliveries of fuel and chemicalsMonitors production plan and production activities accordinglyReports on production progressLiaises with Shipping/Marketing re production requirements Manage factory budgets, fixed and variable costs, capex, maintenance and abnormal maintenance.
Ensures that annual budgets are developedEnsures that a 5-year strategic budget plan is in placeEnsures that all capital items are planned for and budgetedMonitors the expenditure against budgetsReports on budget figures Review overall factory performance, and implement and maintain operational strategies
Ensures the monitoring of operational standards and efficienciesEnsures the timeous loading and despatching of products according to orderEnsures change management of production line organisationManages and reports on factory performance Ensure that maintenance is efficiently carried out and new projects are undertaken for uninterrupted, safe and optimal production, and the safety of employees
Ensures the identification of maintenance requirements for all plant and machineryEnsures the identification of all building and structural maintenance requirements throughout the factory hostel and residential premisesEnsures residential electrical distribution and reticulation system is maintained in safe and reliable conditionParticipates in the design of all major plant alteration or reconstruction in liaison internal or external consultants Ensure the optimal application of all company and Human Resources policies and procedures
Ensure the implementation of all factory-relevant company policiesEnsures the selection and appointment of necessary positions according to policy, Employment Equity Plan and requirements of Job ProfilesEnsures the appropriate payment of employees, and monitoring of overtime compliant with the BCEA.Ensures the appropriate application of employee benefits, including medical assistance, accommodation etc.Ensures the maintenance and improvement of employee relations.Participates in CCMA hearings as required.Participates in meetings with recognised Unions and wage negotiating meetings Ensure effective performance of subordinates and teams
Recommends new appointments to meet the approved needs of the factory departmentEnsures the induction, training and development of the factory teamsEnsures open lines of two-way communicationEnsures continuous and annual performance feedbackEnsures workplace discipline through example and facilitating the grievance process, and corrective and disciplinary procedures Ensure that production and safety standards are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Acts as responsible person under Section 16(2) for compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.
85 of 1993, as amendedEnsures compliance with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulationsEnsures maintenance and improvement of safety standardsEnsures that emergency and contingency plans for factory and residential areas are in placeEnsures the appointment of a responsible person/ employer under General Machinery Regulation 2 for safety committee complianceLiaises with various government departments with regards to health, safety, water and environmental issuesEnsures residential and factory health standards are met with respect to sanitation, water and refuse removal Comply with the requirements of ISO and Quality management Systems
Maintain standard formats of documentationIssue incidents and QIRs REQUIREMENTS Grade 12Tertiary qualification (Batchelors or National Diploma) in EngineeringQualification in Business Administration (an added advantage)Qualification in Project Management5+ years experience in an industrial process plant5+ years experience in leading a management team5+ years experience in safety management and quality control systems KEY ATTRIBUTES Engineering competence ensuring plant availability and optimal production efficiency to specified standardsProven technical skillsSound understanding of boiler operations, steam and heavy engineering processesManagerial skills within a unionized environmentKnowledge and expertise in respect labour legislationComputer proficiency using MS Office suiteKnowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act.Quality & Safety Skills: Maintains organisational procedures, and quality and safety standards in job-related activities.Participate in implementation and maintenance of ISOAdherence to corporate governance: Maintains social, ethical, organisational norms and legislative compliance in job-related activities.Time Perspective: The ability to project how long it will take for self and subordinates to complete various tasks, to prioritise and complete tasks within the predicted time limits, and to co-ordinate the tasks of subordinates.Participative Problem-solving: The ability to involve other people consistently in solving work-related problems.Assertiveness: The ability to command attention & respect, radiating confidence, & expressing ideas with impact in any situation, despite pressure or opposition.
