Job Description Job Title: Facilitator for 5-year-old autistic Boy –Somerset West.
We are seeking a facilitator to support a wonderful, non-speaking 5-year-old autistic boy.
The ideal candidate should be kind, patient, and compassionate, with a genuine passion for working with young neurodivergent children.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about working in an engaging, interactive, and inclusive way, using multisensory approaches.
They should enjoy problem-solving and be adept at finding innovative strategies to support learning.
A collaborative team player who thrives in working alongside others is essential for this role.
  Main Purpose of the job: To be a "helping hand" for their unique and specific support needs, giving them the necessary guidance and support to thrive.
A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and being a secure, long-term source of support are of the utmost importance.
The candidate will be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy and thereafter receive personalised support from a registered counsellor for up to 4-6 weeks, working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre.
Job Objectives: ·       Build a trusting relationship with the learner.
·       Attending school with him to provide support and scaffolding within his immediate school environment.
·       Act as his own dedicated teacher, guiding him through transitions between tasks and supporting him in following the syllabus.
·       Remove him from the classroom when overwhelmed and take him to a safe space to regulate.
·       Acting as a bridge of communication between the teacher, learner, and parents.
·       Assisting with breaking down tasks and chunking information as and when needed, and implementing movement/sensory breaks throughout the day when needed.
·       Facilitate his understanding with regards to his academic learning in social, structured, and unstructured domains.
·       Support and encourage him to develop on his executive functioning around planning, organising, problem-solving, asking for help, and independent self-help skills.
·       Support and scaffolding to help lessen any uncertainties and possible anxiety that may be experienced.
(Pre-empting any possible triggers) ·       Designing and preparing visual resources, as well as planning in advance to support his learning activities and educational goals.
·       Collaborating with the current multi-disciplinary team including parents.
Requirements   General Requirements: Fluent in English – Essential.
Driver's license and own reliable car – Essential.
  Job Related work experience.
Previous working experience in a schooling environment/facilitating role – Essential.
Previous experience in teaching or tutoring children with diverse learning needs – Essential.
Previous experience in a role supporting young neurodivergent children - Essential.
  Job Related Knowledge: Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - Essential.
Familiarity with low arousal, child-led, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.
Familiarity and knowledge of demand avoidance in children - Essential.
Familiarity and knowledge of DIR Floortime – Desirable.

Working hours: Monday - Friday: 07:30 – 12:00 Salary: R7 200 – R10 800 Starting date: January 2025.
