Our Product Technology Team is looking for a Laboratory Technician to provide a textile laboratory service in accordance to SABS and ISO Standards and processes in support of the Company's product strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct tests and assessments to ensure compliance with predetermined standards (SABS & ISO).
Maintain accurate and timely record keeping of tests and results.
Ensure that the testing and assessment environment functions effectively in accordance with the predetermined housekeeping and maintenance plan.
Provide general assistance to the Product Technologists with Fabric related projects and all other general technology administration (E.g. buddy system, samples to GPS & UTI offices).
Skills Required:
A technical knowledge of different types of textiles.
A working knowledge of testing equipment and testing procedures (incl. fabric analysis, performance & chemical tests).
Capture test results and prepare specimens and samples for testing.
Perform laboratory tests.
Accurately capture, interpret and analyse data (i.e. pilling, colour fastness).
Work independently, as well as be a team player.
Communicate effectively (both verbal and written).
Time management skills.
Planning & organising skills.
Working experience in the latest Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word & Excel).
Strong administrative skills.

An understanding of the product end-uses.
Essential:
Minimum 3 years' laboratory experience with testing according to ISO standards.
Previous experience in product and/or textile quality control.
Previous experience in a clothing/homeware manufacturing and/or retail environment.
Exposure to textile dyeing, printing and finishing processes.
Exposure to textile development.
Advantageous to have exposure to a chemical lab.
Qualifications:
A Grade 12 Certificate/Matric is a minimum requirement.
Diploma in Textile Technology OR relevant qualification in clothing production or clothing management, preferably with the following subjects:
Manufacturing technology.
Garment construction and engineering.
Textiles (Fibres & Yarns).
Certificate in Fibres and Fabric.
Relevant SADFA Certificate (dyeing, printing & finishing).
CSIR - Laboratory Accredited Certificate.
