Job Description
The Explosives Coordinator will be the legally appointed representative and the custodian of explosives utilisation at the operation. This role supports the role of the Explosives Licensee (General Manager), with the responsibility and accountability of ensuring legal compliance, continuous improvement and the effectiveness of the Explosives Management System.
In this role you will be the contact person between an operation, the local Inspector of Explosives, Department of Mineral and Energy, manufacturers and suppliers of explosives and blasting systems.
Key Responsibilities:

Foster a safety culture through effective and authorized operational systems/processes, ensuring all employees and contractors operate in a risk-controlled environment.
Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles across all disciplines, taking personal responsibility for safety to achieve zero harm and eliminate fatalities.
Establish objectives and targets for explosives control.
Implement the Anglo Platinum explosives strategy.
Submit required reports for the operation to corporate and external bodies.
Conduct independent reviews of all accidents and incidents.
Develop and manage talent within the explosives department.
Represent the operation in relevant forums with prior approval.
Ensure explosives licenses and permits are regularly reviewed, updated, and re-submitted to CIE/DME for licensing, approval, or re-issuing.
Ensure all personnel are adequately trained, certified, and empowered to manage hazards, safe working procedures, and comply with all applicable legislation, standards, and procedures.
Conduct periodic full discipline audits and procedural reviews of all protocols related to explosives manufacturing.
Ensure all explosives pumps, mixing devices, and other equipment involved in the preparation, manufacturing, placement, or discharging of explosives are fully compliant before use.

This role is in the Projects and SHE - Safety OPS department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Mineral Resource Manager.



Qualifications

Grade 12
Management training sufficient to support experience profile and job requirements
Magazine Master Certificate registered with C.I.E
Drivers Licence with PrDP
SAPS Criminal Record Clearance

Advantageous:

Blasting Ticket/Rock Breaker's certificate of competence with a Mine Overseers Certificate
On appointment, need to obtain a Certificate in Explosives Management within two years
Registration as a responsible person at CIA within three months

Experience:

5 years' experience in explosives management and control.

Knowledge and Skills:

Computer literate (MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, and Projects)
Risk Assessment Techniques
Incident investigation
Route Cause Analysis
