Job Description This role centres around the Development and implementation of short-, medium- and long-term plans to enable the organisation (OMiX and Segments) to provide critical business services to customers. This role is both strategic and hands-on, and the incumbent will work closely with both Line 1 and Line 2 teams to ensure the identification of critical business processes, and that adequate and effective controls are in place to prevent disruptions where possible and further, that if disruption occurs, that the organisation can respond and recover quickly and efficiently. This role will establish the BR strategies (including Crisis Management & Disaster Recovery) for the organization and direct the implementation and monitoring of standards and policies.
This role requires extensive experience in insurance or financial operations, risk management, and business continuity.
Key Result Areas: In this role you will be responsible for:
Team Leadership: The incumbent will build and lead a high-performing team, providing direction, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Operational Resilience Strategy: The incumbent will develop, implement, and oversee the operational resilience strategy across the business, ensuring clarity of roles so that it aligns with our business policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to ensure the ongoing resilience of the organization. Regulatory Compliance: The incumbent will ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, particularly within the South African insurance sector, and work closely with Line 2 functions to engage with regulatory bodies as needed. Maintain engagement with regulators for updates and reporting. Business Continuity Planning: The incumbent will oversee the development and testing of business continuity plans (BCPs) to minimize operational impact during unforeseen events. Owning, leading and delivering an annual programme of activity including resilience assessments, review & testing of critical business services, training and support to process owners on business impact assessments. Crisis Management: The incumbent will lead our crisis management team, ensuring effective response plans are in place for potential operational disruptions, including natural disasters and other emergencies. Risk Management: The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks in collaboration with Line 1 teams, focusing on areas like business continuity, cybersecurity, and third-party dependencies. Provides thought leadership to the organisation on Operational Resilience, including acting as Lead Operational Resilience Subject Matter Expert on new and ongoing programmes and projects. Stakeholder Engagement: The incumbent will collaborate with senior executives, IT, and risk management teams (Line 1 & 2), as well as other key stakeholders, to ensure a cohesive approach to operational resilience. Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required The incumbent should have a Bachelor's degree or NQF 8 in Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field. The incumbent should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in insurance or financial operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on operational resilience or risk management. The incumbent must have extensive experience in delivering compliant outcomes in areas such as anti-money laundering, proliferation financing regulations, data protection, privacy, occupational health and safety, and other operational resilience-related functions. A proven track record in developing and implementing operational resilience strategies and business continuity plans is essential. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills are a must.
