FAMSA Western Cape seeks to employ an Executive Director based at the Observatory (Cape Town) office.
The Executive Director will work closely with the FAMSA Western Cape Board of Directors to develop, execute, and oversee the operational strategies of FAMSA Western Cape's mission, vision, goals and long-term growth and sustainability. The Executive Director will play a key role in the overall management and operation of the organization, ensuring financial accountability and compliance with all relevant requirements. They will oversee and implement strategic initiatives, and provide leadership and mentorship to the managing team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
Strategy and planning:

Collaborates with the Board of Directors to define and articulate FAMSA WC's vision and to develop strategies for achieving that vision.
Create annual plans that support strategic direction set by the board and correlate with annual operating budgets.
Submit annual plans to the Board of Directors.
Leading the strategic direction of the organisation.
Develop and monitor strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of FAMSA WC.
Strategically, with the relevant managing structure, develop future leadership within FAMSA WC toward organisational goals.

Operational Management:

Oversee the overall operations of FAMSA WC, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Develop procedures for implementing strategic vision of the organisation, approved by the Board of Directors.
Promote a culture that reflects FAMSA WC's values, encourages good performance and rewards productivity.
Employment, development and consultation of senior managers.
Ensure that staff and the Board have sufficient and up to date information.
Performance management of the Managing Team.

Board support and leadership:

Serves as an ex-officio member of FAMSA's Board of Directors.
Assist in the selection and evaluation of board members and leadership.
Makes recommendations and supports the board during orientation and self-evaluation.
Supports and participates in the board's evaluation of the Executive Director.
Supports operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members and interfacing between Board and staff.

Financial Management:

Oversight and development of organisational budget in line with operational strategy of FAMSA WC.
Oversight of Resource Manager and Managing Team, developing annual budgets that support operating plan to support operational strategy.
Manages FAMSA's resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
Ensures that staff practice all appropriate accounting procedures in compliance with Public Finance Management Act (Act 1 of 1999).
Provides prompt, thorough, and accurate information to keep the Board appropriately informed of FAMSA WC's financial position.

Fundraising:

Leading strategies and monitoring fundraising initiatives.

Public relationships:

Act as ambassador for FAMSA WC, where appropriate.
Assures that the organisation and its mission, programs and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.

FAMSA National Directorate:

Attend meetings as and when required.
Participate on national level strategic planning as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Master's degree in social work with relevant management training and/or experience or;
Social work degree with relevant management training and experience.
Proven track record successfully leading and managing teams.
Minimum of 5 years' management experience in a diverse organisation.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in the NPO sector.
Registered with SACSSP/other relevant bodies.
Valid driver's license.
Own transport.
Fluent in English. Afrikaans/IsiXhosa would be an advantage.
Excellent time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels and manage stakeholder relationships.
Proven track record in numeracy and relevant accounting skills, managing budgets and producing financial reports.
Planning, coordinating, organising and negotiating skills.
Able to work well in a team as well as independently.
Able to keep self and others accountable.
Self-management.
Able to take initiative and develop creative solutions to various challenges.
Computer Skills.
Attention to detail and meticulous in completion of tasks.
Meeting of deadlines.
Adaptability and flexibility.
Responsibility and reliability regarding the use of official work time.
Emotional maturity/stability.

Commencement date: 6 January 2025
(Appointee will be subjected to a 3-month probation period)
