Key Result Area: Cost Management: Maintain Database of costs for projects are by benchmarking costs of items to industry standard and updating these costs on the database to enable estimation of costs for tender purposes. Manufacturing times and material costs are estimated using the relevant database sent to sales personnel to be included in the tender before the tender deadline closes. Costs are simulated and frozen on the costs data base after setting up a new item or when an item changes to maintain accurate costs on the system. Variance analysis is conducted when a variance is reported by a relevant stakeholder. Selling price is calculated using the agreed markup as per sales budget. Contracts are monitored with regards to validity and initiating price updates if necessary. Provide financial reporting, trending data. Perform data analysis and development. Ensure that all expected costs have been properly presented to management for Review/Approval/Acceptance of the estimate. Project Data Management: Calculation spreadsheets are updated when new or improved rates are established. Record tender and enquiry information using the projects document management system. Customer Satisfaction: Ensure accurate prices are submitted on time to the Sales Department. Liaise with Procurement on supplier and cost issues. Liaise with Drawing Office on item, Bill of Materials (BOM) and routing issues. Estimate Workflow: Define Cost Estimate Scope: Define the project scope, time period, phases to be estimated, communication channels, and establish any boundaries for estimates or project requirements. Estimates are typically completed in 2448 hours. Define Assumptions or Constraints: Identify any schedule or budget constraints, and how those will be resolved. Define Assumptions or Constraints: Identify any schedule or budget constraints, and how those will be resolved. Develop Cost Element Structure: Identify everything defined in the scope to be costed. Develop Cost Estimating Relationships: Use cost data to develop formulas/equations entered into the cost model. Formulas/Equations will be the basis for estimating costs. Follow the Estimating life cycle in accordance with prescribed standards and procedures. Decision Making: Identifies issues, problems, and opportunities: Recognises issues, problems and / or opportunities and determines whether action is needed. Chooses appropriate action: Formulates clear decision criteria, evaluates options by considering implications and consequences, chooses and effective option. Communication: Communicates time frames: Build due dates into assignments and task delegations; effectively communicates milestones and expected results. Data Gathering: Gathers appropriate information: o Asks questions to obtain the relevant information; gets feedback from those directly involved. o Identifies the need for and collects information to better understand issues, problems opportunities. Site visits: With sales and engineering team to clarify the clients requirements Quality Orientation: Ensures high quality output: Monitors the costing process, tasks, and estimation activities to ensure error, omissions, and defects free estimates. Knowledge and understanding of process plants will be a major advantage. Technical/Professional knowledge/skills: Costing Knowledge: Understands basic costing principles and can use this knowledge to accurately cost projects. Technical Drawings: Able to read and understand technical drawings. Manufacturing Process Knowledge: Understands basic manufacturing processes and can apply this knowledge when costing projects. Analyse project schedules, bills of quantities and other project documentation to build an accurate cost estimate. Analysing data that can affect costs (labour rates, material costs, travel, and accommodation etc) Computer literacy: Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in MS Excel, MS Projects other MS Office programs. Knowledge and experience in ERP systems, JDE preferred. Able to apply these within the job.
