FMM is seeking a motivated professional to fulfill our Estimator position in our corporate office located in Denham Springs, LA. FMM is a maintenance and construction company servicing both residential and commercial clients nationwide.
Job Summary: The Construction Estimator is responsible for analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing detailed cost estimates, and providing support to project managers throughout the bidding and construction process. This role requires a thorough understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods to ensure accurate and competitive bid proposals. Estimated projects could include but are not limited to: residential remodels/small projects, commercial building renovations, multi-family or student housing renovations, management and installation of new building systems such as HVAC and roofing.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Included but not limited to)
Make decisions using the 5 values of FMM as your guide: Quality, Teamwork, Pride, Passion, and Integrity
Analyze and interpret architectural plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
Calculate labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, and related documents.
Develop and maintain cost databases for labor, material, and equipment.
Prepare and submit bid proposals, budgets, and cost summaries for review and approval.
Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and accurate scopes of work.
Review and adjust estimates to reflect scope changes and revisions.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to discuss and resolve estimation issues.
Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements.
Provide technical support and guidance to project teams throughout the bidding and construction phases.
Conduct detailed quantity take-offs for all construction components.
Identify potential risks and opportunities within the project scope and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
Evaluate historical data and project costs to improve accuracy in future estimates.
Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project costs.
Prepare and present detailed cost reports and analysis to management and clients.
Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, client requirements, and industry regulations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
High school diploma
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is a plus, but not required.
3 - 5 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within commercial construction.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Valid Driver's License
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to our Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy
Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based with occasional visits to project sites.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
Mental Requirements:
Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
Must have the ability to talk and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
Reading and writing comprehension are necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and our safety policy.
Must be able to work at various tempos and concentrate amid distractions.
Decision making skills necessary.
Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
