Estimator (Civil)

Purpose and Description of the Job:To develop accurate, fully compliant and competitive tenders by ensuring timeous, accurate and comprehensive preparation and completion of tender submission documents according to thetender requirements.Requirements- Degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying.- At least 5 years experience as an Estimator at a medium to large construction company.- Minimum 5 years on-site experience in the construction industry.
Preferably in the Roadsand Earthworks and/or Township services industries.Other requirements: - Advanced Proficiency of CCS estimating and planning modules.- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word & Outlook) andAdobe.- Sound knowledge of standard contract documentation (GCC, NEC, FIDIC, JBCC) andspecifications (SANS/COLTO/COTO).- Ability to review the tender documentation and identify any potential risk and/or gains.- Ablity to do take offs and prepare sub-contracting and buying schedules- Implement and manage tender buying for materials and sub-contracting packages- Able to, from time to time travel to site inspections for tenders which may include overnight stay.Tasks and DutiesThe envisaged tasks and duties of the incumbent are as follows:- Searching for relevant tenders on various platforms.- Attend tender inspections and assess the scope of work and risks.- Review project drawings and specifications to determine scope of work.- Prepare quotation requests.- Quantity take-off from drawings to evaluate accuracy of Bill of Quantities when tendering.- Compare and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.- Accurately complete and submit tenders by applying estimating practices within deadlines, tosecure profitable contracts.- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors following successful award of tender.- Hand off project and proposals to Operations Teams following the successful award of tender.- Maintain records and electronic filing system for each tender.- Continuously update the Supplier and Subcontractor database with new vendors
