Job Purpose: The position of the eResearch Systems and Web Developer is critical in the library environment as it provides technical support to the eResearch platforms which enable researchers and Library staff to carry out their duties. The eResearch online platforms are web-based and have been customized to meet the requirements of the library objectives.
Key Responsibilities: System ManagementWork closely with colleagues in the Library, CTS Services, and Research & Innovation to identify ongoing technical requirements for eResearch.Collaborate with the University IT Department to ensure alignment with the ICT strategy and target application and technical architectures.Develop policies and processes to manage, preserve, and provide access to research data and publications.Support the use of research information management applications.Implement tools for research data management and publication.Systems Design:Design, code, test, correct, and document large and/or complex programs using agreed standards and tools.Produce outline system specifications and main system functions.Translate logical designs into physical designs considering target environment and performance requirements.Document all work using agreed standards and methods.Construct, interpret, and execute test plans to verify correct operation of completed systems.Systems Development:Ensure compliance with systems development standards.Maintain appropriate technical records and perform quality reviews.Plan, design, and conduct tests of programs; correct errors to achieve error-free results.Document all work in accordance with agreed standards.Web Development:Ensure the Library website development, updates, and maintenance.Strategize the web environment for optimal user experience.Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: A 4-year qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields.At least 3 years' experience in Software Design and Development.Able to work flexibly across campuses.Recommendation: Valid driver's license.Key Performance Areas: Software Development/ProgrammingSystem AdministrationWeb DevelopmentProblem SolvingTeam SupportResearch & Development and Innovation SupportProject ManagementFamiliarity with programming languages (PHP, Java, Python)Knowledge of database systems (MySQL, PostGres, ORACLE)Understanding of Internet technologies and protocolsPlanning and organizing skillsCreative problem-solving abilitiesCollaborative communication skillsGeneral Information: Closing Date: 08 December 2024
