The Registrar's Office staff are committed to strong service excellence in supporting the academic and registrarial needs of current undergraduate, graduate and professional master's students. These services include advising and administration as it relates to registration, financial need, scholarships & awards, and graduation. The Registrar's Office is responsible for recruitment and admissions of prospective students, administration of experiential learning opportunities (international, research, in-field learning courses), scheduling of academic courses and exams and providing faculty support.
Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Student Experience and Academic Advising, the incumbent provides academic and career advising in conjunction with student success strategies and initiatives to assist the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education in supporting its students. This role will also provide student advising in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion and in the developing & implementation of diverse and comprehensive programs with a focus on equity and engagement.
Your responsibilities will include: Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences.Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary.Reviewing and approving changes to degree requirements for exceptional cases.Leading the development and implementation of a student equity, diversity and inclusion plan, focusing on student programming, access, learning and retention.Collaborating with the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion offices at the University to implement best practices related to equity, diversity and inclusion.Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university services.Facilitating educational workshops and seminars.Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in education or related field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum four years work experience in a university setting preferably in student advising, student services or related area.Professional experience in, and understanding of, complex issues related to equity and diversity as they relate to the student experience.Demonstrated experience in bringing about positive change in the field of Equity Diversity & Inclusion.A thorough understanding of diversity frameworks is essential.Ability to work effectively with diverse and demanding communities of students.Ability to respond calmly and professionally to students who may be in emotional distress.Ability to work under pressure and with a large volume of work under limited supervision.Assets (Nonessential): Working knowledge of ROSI or similar Student Record System and Degree Explorer is an asset.To be successful in this role you will be: Approachable.Goal oriented.Meticulous.Multi-tasker.Organized.Resourceful.Note: This appointment is for a 6-month term.
