Environmental Officer-Bolobedun Limpopo

The Environmental Officer plays an important role in the preservation of the environment. They will be responsible for managing environmental aspects for the implementation by subcontractors according to regulations, IFC Performance Standards and The Company Health, Safety, Environment and Social (HSES) Standards.Key Responsibilities include:Address and supervise EIA requirements in line with local and international standardsIdentifying environmental incidents, conducting investigationsConducting the environmental awareness trainingManage all conditions set out in the Environmental Authorization and EMPrManage all data that comes from environmental monitoring activityEvaluate test results and make recommendations for maintaining compliance with local norms and standards, as well as IFC standardsCoordinate with the Site Manager, HSE Coordinator to ensure conformity with the environmental and social management planInspect and Audit construction site for environmental management plan implementation and compliance and monitor Contractors with respect to environmental obligationsSupervise third party / subcontractors in the maintenance of monitoring programs and environmental managementOverview and coordinate environmental operations in order to ensure permit renewals and regulatory complianceKeep documents / permits / licenses relating to environmental policies and regulation up to dateEnsure proper reporting to National, Provincial and Municipal stakeholdersKnowledge in ISO14001, mine closure, rehabilitation and biodiversity management will be advantageousEducation and Technical Skills Level:At least 3-5 years of experience working in a similar positionMust have a sound knowledge of environmental legislationBasic knowledge of environmental and/or public health principles and technology acquired through applicable formal training or combination of education and experienceAbility to conduct routine inspections and investigationsAbility to collect, record and interpret dataFluent in EnglishStrong grasp or fluency in other local languages is a plusRequired Soft Skills:Strong communication and interpersonal skillsCommitment to and understanding of the aims, values, principles, policies and proceduresCommitment to utilizing participatory approachesDemonstrable ability in report writingA good understanding and/or knowledge of environmental management, environmental monitoring, compliance auditing, contractor managementA good sense of organization and time managementAbility to demonstrate a sense of respect, listening and interaction with local project stakeholders
