Environmental and Social Risk SpecialistJohannesburg, South AfricaJob Mission / ObjectiveThe Environmental and Social Risk Specialist (Level 2) is responsible for building the Bank's impact in sustainability through ESG standards – the Environmental and Social (E&S) Performance Standards and the Corporate Governance Methodology – and to encourage the effective adoption of these standards by companies and investors across the emerging markets.The Environmental and Social Risk Specialist works with client companies and mobilizes technical and financial support to address environmental and/or social aspects of clients' operations. The role requires oversight of key risks, stakeholders, and tasks in respect to the ESS. The Environmental and Social Risk Specialist is an independent risk assessor who does not have the role of managing or mitigating the risk but must have oversight, monitor, report, and advise on any risks identified.Main ResponsibilitiesStrategic Partnership, Communication, Liaison and Training (35%)Partner with market-facing staff on the need to ensure that all credits with inherently high environmental and social risks meet the approved environmental and social action plan before approval and disbursement.Partner with EBS and sustainability team in the pursuit and implementation of measures geared to reduce the Bank's carbon footprint.Conscientiously and timely report on relevant obligors' E&S performance and development on Environmental and Social Risk Management Systems.Circulate newsletter/datasheets on trending issues in the environmental and social risk management space.Development, Oversight, and Management (30%)Build capability to achieve excellent audit report from the Bank's DFI partners in terms of E&S risk governance system for attracting and monitoring green funds.Monitor that service levels, procedures, and processes are being adhered to.Reporting, Administration, and Meeting Attendance (30%)Provide an independent risk view to the CRO regarding the BU's progress and compliance with the ESS Standards.Efficiently monitor the Bank's carbon footprint with the aim of a 10% reduction YOY.Provide periodic reports on E&S monitoring to Management, DFIs, etc.Promptly submit all regulatory reports to the CBN.Efficiently report on the use of Green Bond proceeds.Implement appropriate risk reporting to the CRO and BU Head within the template as designed.Attend relevant Bus meetings to identify risks or weaknesses in controls.Monitor and report in terms of ESS with the business units and CRO.Business Forums (5%)Attend relevant Industry Forums as required.Business Planning / Decision MakingDevelop ESS risk culture within the BU.Policies and ProceduresEnsure periodic but timely updates of Access Bank's Environmental and Social Risk Management policy, processes, and procedures in line with prevailing global standards amendments and/or current regulatory amendments.Enhance the full implementation of the Access Bank Group Environmental and Social standards.Job RequirementsAcademic KnowledgeB Comm/BSc or Law Degree.Work ExperienceMinimum 7 years Bank experience with a Law Degree.
