Attend to wound care. Observation of intravenous lines in coordination with the Registered Nurse. Preparation and receiving patients from theatre, immediate post-operative care. Admission and discharge of patients. Ensure patient comfort at all times. Attending to their hygiene needs, e.g., assisted baths, bed baths, etc. Assisting with baby baths. Initial baby bath with midwife. Assist with preparation for diagnostic procedures. Takes rounds with doctors. Vital signs observation. Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Occupational Safety Act.Report unsafe conditions.Care Planning And Implementation:Ensure that key areas of organization and planning are kept up to date with regards to: Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, file compilation, therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards, medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles are maintained, ensure that all documentation is maintained timeously and accurately, reflecting patient care maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, report equipment needing repair or replacement to sister-in-charge and responsible for ensuring correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment.Action area: Execution of the nursing care plan under direct or indirect supervision by the Registered Nurse. General Patient Care. Admit patients under direct or indirect supervision of registered nurse. Intake and output. Promotion and maintenance of patient's nutritional status and elimination. Check intravenous infusions. Record results accurately (keep intake and output charts up to date). Prepare patient for diagnostic and nursing procedures. Administer injections and oral medicines under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse. Promote healing of wounds by wound care and prevention of infection or other complications. Refer all complaints from patients and doctors to sister-in-charge of the unit.ICU/High Care Enrolled Nurse Functions:Enrolled nurse responsible for patients delegated to her care under indirect supervision by shift leader. Performs full physical assessment on patient e.g., inspection, auscultation, and palpation. Records accurately all findings on patient's notes. Reports any abnormalities to shift leader/sister in charge. Administers medication to patient after checking prescription and medication with a registered nurse. Both staff sign prescription chart.Accompany doctor on rounds with patients delegated to her care, documents all orders in ICU chart and communicate it to the nurse in charge.Ensure all doctor's orders are executed as soon as possible.Ensures that telephonic orders are signed within 24 hours.Responsible for environmental checking and safety checks allocated to her daily.Record and report abnormalities of medical equipment.Reads and signs the memorandums, communication book, minutes of meetings, and policies and procedures.Ensure all patients delegated to her have authorization forms filled in by attending doctor.Ensure that patient's details are entered into admission register on admission/discharge/transfer from unit.Ensure that medication is reconciled and tallied with each shift leader; consider pharmacy issue and usage to ensure correct medication balance.Missing medication/drugs are reported to nurse in charge.Ensure a safe environment for the patient promotes and maintains patient's personal hygiene (Does bed making, bathing of patients).Preparation prior to invasive procedures and assisting doctor during procedures as needed/indicated.Assist with admission and transfer of patients to and from the ward and handover take a full report.Assess risk factors and prevent medico-legal hazards.
