The Key responsibilities for this role are to: Make good decisions on own initiativeGood software tool understanding, works alone with minimum supervision whilst producing tool deliverablesAble to organise information well and communicate design intent through software tool output. e.g. structure a drawing correctly and communicate design intent through drawing using CADUnderstands the principles of the design process and how design is translated into deliverables through the use of software tools.Understands the key project issues and how these influence their individual workTaking ownership and responsibility for their own work and completing it to time and costTrains technicians and junior staff in relevant software toolsSupervises and checks the work of other team membersDevelops increased design ability and qualityDrafts technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational qualityAble to present / represent their technical workAble to draft responses to straightforward bids – assistance sought with commercial aspectsDevelop knowledge of the commercial aspects of project managementSuccessful in identifying and following through on leads associated with additional work prospects on the projects they are involved withRegular client contact under direction of more senior managerAbility to check and inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specificationsUndertakes monitoring and proposes remedial actionsUnderstand and implement local functional business technologies and marketsDirect and manage project development from beginning to endDevelop project scope and deliverables that support client business goals in collaboration with all stakeholdersDevelop full-scale project plans and associated communications documentsEffectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashionLiaise with project stakeholders on an on-going basisEstimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goalsDetermine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitmentsSet and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholdersDelegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnelIdentify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project teamIdentify and manage project dependencies and critical pathPlan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate toolsTrack project milestones and deliverablesDevelop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentationsProactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plansCoach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned workBuild, develop and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the projectConduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elementsProactive approach in developing work or being aware of what projects are likely to come up from key clientsSubmission of Expression Of Interest (EOIs) and proposalsDevelop and maintain internal contacts within SMEC South Africa to source appropriate skillsDirectly responsible for recognising revenue and indirectly responsible for controlling specific project budgetsRecommended Qualifications, Skills and Experience B.Tech Degree / Advanced Diploma at an accredited institutionMinimum 3 years of practical experience in design of transportation, municipal services infrastructure, bulk water and sewerage infrastructureUnderstands the key project issues and how these influence his/her workCan make good decisions on own initiativeKnowledge of basic project management and the use of project management softwareUnderstands the principles of the design process and how design is translated into deliverables through the use of software toolsWorking knowledge of Autodesk Civil3DWorking knowledge of Infraworks, Storm & Sewer Analyses, iDAS or Water Design Software will be advantageous.Interest and/or experience with BIM systems would be advantageous.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to draft technical reports of acceptable technical presentational qualityExperience in Government standards, codes and documentation.Experience in design management and design delivery for projects.Experience in managing professional teams of medium/large projects, would be beneficial.Experience in administering GCC 2015 projects will be beneficialClosing date: Friday, 05 July 2024 How to Apply All applications must be submitted online.
