Job Description The Challenge The EMS Specialist will manage and coordinate all operational aspects of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
The role includes designing, evaluating, and managing emergency preparedness and response efforts to align with global industry standards, including Tailings Management and Anglo American Social Way requirements.
The focus is on ensuring an integrated emergency response for both surface and underground operations.
Key Performance Areas : Oversee operational functionality of Fire, Rescue, and EMS for Venetia Mine.
Manage firefighting, rescue, and EMS to maintain Airport category status at Venetia Mine Airport.
Develop and maintain emergency systems repair schedules and associated contracts.
Inspect and maintain first-aid, firefighting, and emergency response equipment in compliance with regulations and SABS standards.
Conduct emergency and response risk assessments and audits to implement adequate controls.
Create and execute comprehensive emergency drill schedules per GISTM and ISO 14001/45001 requirements.
Promote emergency risk awareness among employees and contractors.
Audit systems, procedures, and equipment to identify gaps and provide expert advice.
Build relationships with external Emergency, Fire, Rescue, and Medical institutions to ensure professional services.
Update training modules in collaboration with the Skills Development Centre.
Ensure all Emergency personnel are trained, assessed, and declared competent.
Audit building plans for compliance with SANS and fire regulations.
Maintain readiness for emergency situations in surface and underground operations.
Manage the Proto Team's service agreement and training with Mines Rescue Services South Africa.
Requirements Qualifications Required : Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.
Relevant qualifications in Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Emergency Medical Care specific to mining.
Driver's license Code EC & PDP.
Advantageous : Intermediate Life Support Paramedic certification.
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of management experience in emergency preparedness and response.
Surface and underground emergency preparedness experience.
Knowledge of mining regulations, incident management, and emergency documentation.
Underground Proto Team experience (advantageous).
