The Emergency Care Assistant position is a supervised, entry level clinical assistant within the emergency medical care environment.
The qualification provides an entry point into emergency medical care, where practice is primarily on an Ambulance.
The successful candidate will have a demonstratable record of capacity to operate in a fast paced, changeable environment. Key Abilities include: A.
Demonstrate effective communication and apply the principles of medical ethics, professional behaviour and the legal framework to the context within which Emergency Care Assistants operate while maintaining personal health, wellness and safety.
B.
Demonstrate knowledge of the structure and function of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) systems in South Africa and how they relate to the broader health care structures within the country.
C. Provide healthcare as part of a team within an emergency care environment to all sectors of the community within the Emergency Care Assistant scope of practice.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES A.
OPERATIONAL CAPACITY 1.
In conjunction with this Job Description (JD), the Emergency Care Assistant will also comply to all responsibilities, requirements, and performance parameters of his/her scope of operational capacity.
Although this document is issued within its own structure, it will be measured and monitored as the same. 2.
Assist the ALS Paramedic in developing local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for emergency medical operations.
3.
Driving (Responding) and staffing ambulances and other emergency vehicles. 4.
Assessing patients, providing emergency treatment and making diagnoses within scope of practice.
5.
Transporting patients to hospital and continuing to provide treatment while in transit. 6.
Providing hospital staff with patient information including condition and treatment. 7.
Conducts medical training for personnel as required.
8.
Monitors medical issues and trending emergencies in Wolmaransstad and surrounding areas to ensure personnel are apprised of current medical threats and aware of preventative measures and risks.
9.
Manages daily activities of BAA staff members to ensure effective efficiencies in compliance with contractual and legal requirements.
10.
Ensures that all Patient Report Forms (PRFs) , paper and/or electronic, are completed correctly and up to standard. 11.
Daily vehicle maintenance which includes a pre and post shift vehicle inspection and wash. B.
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT WITH AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY 1.
Responsible for protection of company resources, medical supplies, and equipment.

Conduct a full equipment audit and inspection of emergency vehicles on a monthly basis.
C. OTHER DUTIES, AS ASSIGNED 1.
Work with the management team, to ensure all deliverables are achieved. 2.
Assist with marketing and business development projects.
3.
To perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the grade of the post and skill and qualifications of the post-holder.

Sound clinical knowledge within scope of practice, as per qualification.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE A.
National Senior Certificate B.
Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care C. Valid Driver's License with C1/Code 10 classification D. Valid Professional Driving Permit for transporting GOODS and PASSENGERS E. At least 1 year experience in a similar position At least 2 years' experience in driving vehicles within Code 10 / C1 classification.
