IntroductionThe primary purpose of the Electronic Engineer is to design and integrate electronic hardware for the systems under development. Our company's focus is mainly on electro-optical systems for the civilian and security industry, but may also be suitable for limited defence applications. This wide range of application implies special requirements and considerations when designing and verifying electronic hardware. The Electronic Engineer will work in a team with System Engineers, Project Managers, the Chief Electronic Engineer, and other Engineers and Technicians in the process of product development.Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of the Electronics Engineer will include:Concept electronic designs to meet the system requirements provided by the Systems EngineerDetailed electronic hardware designs based on the chosen concept designOversee and review PCB designsInternal and external interface designsDesign for Electro-magnetic compatibilitySimulation and analysis in support of the design processAbility to develop and/or understand firmware and software for optical systems is an advantageCreation of documentation (e.g. requirement specifications, design description and verification documents, version descriptions) as outputs of the various stages of the hardware design, development, and review processPerform FAIT (Fabrication, Assembly, Integration and Testing) for electronic components/sub-systemsPerform verification, validation and qualification testing of the electronic components/subsystemsSuitable CharacterThe following traits are desired for this role:The ability to apply a deep technical knowledge through independent judgement and decision makingSelf-motivated and proactive, with the drive necessary to bring product development projects to a successful conclusionAn innovative thinker and pragmatic problem solver, who can identify a variety of technical options, evaluate their suitability, and select the optimum solutionWilling to consult the opinion of others and negotiate consensus where necessaryExhibits an enthusiastic, confident and positive attitude to their workMaintains a polite, respectful and professional demeanour at all timesIs prepared to ensure project success in any reasonable wayDesired Experience & QualificationBachelor's or higher Electronic Engineering Degree is essential.Required Experience5-10 years of Electronic Engineering experience in a military product development environment is essential3-5 years' experience in Electronic Hardware Design in an Opto-Electronic development environment (e.g. DTV cameras or Infrared cameras) is essentialWorking knowledge of current printed circuit board and component technologies, as well as related CAD tools (e.g. Altium Designer, Cadence) is desired including FPGA and ASIC devices, fiber optics cables, wiring types, electrical connectors is essentialWorking knowledge of computing system design (FPGA, memory and supporting circuitry) is essentialFamiliarity with the typical electronic hardware development process and documentation artifacts is essentialFamiliarity with military and/or industry hardware specificationsExperience working with embedded software and firmwareWorking knowledge of typical electronic system ancillary components such as cables and connectors and heat sinks is essentialWorking knowledge of electronic engineering test equipment and measurement techniques is essentialFamiliarity with environmental and EMI testing and qualificationPackage & RemunerationHighly negotiable from 5 years - 15+ years experience: R60,000.00 - R1,200,000.00 per month.
