JOB SCOPE
The Director of Planning, Performance, and Impact will provide strategic leadership to ensure the organization's activities are systematically planned, effectively executed, and meaningfully evaluated. The role integrates organizational planning, performance management, and program impact evaluation to align efforts with strategic goals and demonstrate value to stakeholders. Working across departments, this position will embed a culture of continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and sustainable social impact.
Reporting to the Managing Director, your main areas of focus will be:
1. Planning
Lead strategic and annual planning processes, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and goals.
Develop and implement planning tools and methodologies to facilitate evidence-based decision-making across departments.
Drive cross-functional collaboration during the planning cycle, ensuring integration of digital solutions for efficiency.
Anticipate risks and challenges, embedding mitigation strategies into operational and strategic plans.
2. Performance
Oversee the design and implementation of performance management frameworks, linking individual, departmental, and organizational goals.
Monitor and analyse performance metrics, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and promoting data-driven decision-making.
Develop and refine data systems, dashboards and reporting tools to track progress, enabling real-time visibility into organizational performance.
Build capacity within teams to interpret and utilize performance data for continuous improvement.
3. Impact
Lead the development and implementation of robust Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks, emphasizing social and community outcomes.
Guide data collection, analysis, and reporting to quantify the impact of programs, leveraging methodologies such as Social Return on Investment (SROI).
Foster a learning culture through structured feedback loops, ensuring insights inform program innovation and strategic adjustments.
Communicate impact findings to stakeholders, preparing compelling reports and presentations for funders, partners, and the broader community.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Education/Equivalent
Post Graduate qualification in a relevant field such as Development Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or Public Policy.
Formal training or certification in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) or project management is an advantage.
Experience
10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management role, ideally overseeing teams or departments focused on performance improvement and data-driven decision-making.
Expertise in data management, analysis and visualization tools
Experience in developing scalable MEL frameworks and toolkits for multi-site projects.
Proven ability to lead complex project evaluations and present findings to diverse audiences.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in project management, with demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in ambiguous settings.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in adapting MEL approaches to varied contexts (urban, township, rural).
Experience in effectively collaborating with multiple partners and stakeholders in fast-paced environments.
