IntroductionZeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a public not-for-profit institution that exhibits, collects, preserves, and research contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora; conceives and hosts international exhibitions; develops supporting educational, discursive, and enrichment programmes; encourages intercultural understanding; and strives for access for all. The museum's galleries feature rotating, temporary exhibitions with dedicated spaces for the permanent collection. Through our exhibitions, programs, and initiatives, we aim to inspire creativity, foster critical thinking, and contribute to the cultural landscape of Africa and the world.Job SummaryThe Digital and Social Media Specialist will collaborate with the Head of Institutional Advancement and the Communications & Marketing Team to enhance Zeitz MOCAA's digital presence. This role focuses on creating engaging content, managing social media, and driving digital communications to boost visibility and broaden engagement. Responsibilities include overseeing digital platforms like the museum's website, social media channels, the Bloomberg Connects app, and newsletters, including platforms for supporting bodies like the American Friends of Zeitz MOCAA (AFOZM).Key Responsibilities:Content Creation and ManagementDevelop engaging multimedia content for digital and channels, including photography and videography of exhibitions and eventsDesign digital assets like event invites, social media posts, and promotional materialsMeasure and benchmark social media performance to refine engagement strategies and develop targeted campaignsManage paid social media ad campaigns, ensuring optimal performanceCollaborate with Communications and Marketing Managers to align digital strategy with broader marketing goalsSocial Media and CampaignsOversee the creation, scheduling, and engagement of content across digital platformsManage content placement and timing on platforms like the website and social media, using data insights to optimize strategiesManage the organisation's social media accounts and respond to inquiries and comments in a timely mannerImplement and optimise campaigns across social media and digital channelsManage daily updates and interactions on digital platforms, ensuring timely and effective communicationAnalyse data and generate reports to track engagement and content performanceRespond promptly to messages, media inquiries, and queriesMonitor social media to maintain Zeitz MOCAA's online presence and reputation, addressing feedback and inquiries efficientlyCollaborate and SupportParticipate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for content developmenSupport media events and public programming with digital coverage, including outside regular hoursPlan and execute social media and digital activities for museum events, programs, and initiativesAssist the Communications Team with administrative tasks as neededCollaborate with Curatorial, Art Education, Institutional Advancement, and Events teams to develop content aligned with exhibitions, education, and museum activitiesDocument Zeitz MOCAA events through photos and videos for digital platformsManage and archive all digital content, including photography and video assetsCoordinate with the broader communications team and external agencies as neededWhat you will need to be successful in the roleTertiary education in a Design, Marketing, Communications, or related fieldMinimum of 3 years of relevant experience in digital with a portfolio of work which includes writing for brands and social mediaProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other multimedia editing toolsWell-developed and proven written and verbal communication skilA love for the arts and creative field with an eye for detailKnowledge of social media analytics tools and best practicesVideo editing and photo editing skills to improve the standard of visuality of all outgoing museum assetsAnimation design to improve the standard of paid media assets for promotional purposesGraphic design and the technical prowess to conceptualise and create engaging visual contentAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentCreative thinker with a passion for storytelling and content creationStrong organizational skills and attention to detailStrong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others and within a teamAbility to effectively multitask and coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints and completion within deadlinesExperience working with digital marketing tools such as: Google analytics, email marketing platforms, SEO tools, PPC platforms and content management systems (i.e. WordPress)Person specificationThe Digital and Social Media Specialist will play a key role in the organisation's efforts to raise awareness and engage with various audiences through digital and social media channels.
