They often have the following duties and responsibilities:Consulting the customer and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks requiredPreparing work plans after fully scoping out the issuesRunning diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutionsInspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhaustsRepairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines and other associated partsConducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdownTest driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performanceCompleting oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment and brake checksMaintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles
