PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely fault finding, replace, maintain, and repair components on vehicles/earthmoving equipment.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:An N2 in Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 4) is essential.Recognised relevant Trade Qualification (Section 26D) OR proof of recognised completed apprenticeship contract (completed by means of effluxion of time) NTC 2 (relevant Trade Theory, specialised courses) (desirable)2 years experience as a Diesel Mechanic on Forklifts, Telescopic boom handlers, and earth-moving equipment is essential (Manitou, Clark and Bell models would be preferable)Hydraulic experience will be an advantageExperience in a mining environment will be advantageous.A valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificateCOMPETENCIES:Understanding of engineering drawings for an engine of vehicles and earthmoving equipment.Understanding of body component drawings for vehicles and earthmoving equipment.Understanding of drawings of vehicles and earthmoving equipment systems.§ Understanding of principles of fault finding on vehicles and earthmoving equipment.Understanding of components and the purposes of the components of vehicles and earthmoving equipment.Understanding of the components of vehicles and earthmoving equipment, logbook and where to look to ascertain the type of work required.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:Complete Job Cards recording work done and parts replaced.Conduct inspections on damaged/breakdown vehicles and earthmoving equipment.Assess and determine vehicle and earthmoving equipment damage and scope of repairs.Conduct fault finding on vehicles / earthmoving equipment and apply applicable remedy.Inspect vehicles and earthmoving equipment for faults and roadworthiness before handing back to user.Control quality of repair and maintenance processes and the quality of finished work.Plan for maintenance and repair work.Carry out vehicle and earthmoving equipment services.Dismantle, remove, and replace components.
