Our client is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, and overall functionality of vehicles and equipment.
The ideal candidate will ensure optimal performance, uphold safety standards, and manage workshop operations efficiently.
Responsibilities:Service SchedulesSchedule vehicle and equipment maintenance intervals according to manufacturer specifications.Specify all service or repair work, ensuring work done by external agents meets required standards.Ensure vehicles are in a fit state to pass Certificate of Fitness (COF) tests, minimizing retests.Conduct weekly inspections of vehicles under your control to identify and address potential problems.Respond promptly to fault and damage repair requests noted on vehicle inspection sheets.Workshop/Work AreaMaintain the cleanliness and organization of the workshop.Ensure tools and equipment are in good condition and serviceable.Maintain cleanliness of lubricants and fluids to prevent contamination.Supervise workshop assistants, ensuring safety and accuracy in all tasks.Call-OutsBe available for scheduled call-out work, ensuring swift response to breakdowns.Coordinate with the Depot Manager for assistance with issues beyond personal expertise.Be on 24-hour standby for call-outs, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.Health and SafetyEnsure all workshop equipment is used safely, adhering to health and safety standards.Wear necessary protective equipment and check the condition of hoses and other tools regularly.FinanceControl costs and ensure proper recovery of outwork expenses.Request purchases through the line manager and ensure proper purchase orders are generated.Manage the usage of consumables and spares effectively.Accurately complete job cards to facilitate costing.Plan purchases to benefit from bulk pricing and discounts.Limit rework and ensure timely follow-up on all maintenance tasks.Key Skills:Strong knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and repair.Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues.Organizational skills for maintaining clean and efficient workshop environments.Ability to supervise and train assistants to ensure safety and accuracy.Strong communication skills to collaborate with managers and external agents.Proactive problem-solving skills for managing breakdowns and emergencies.Minimum of 5 years of experience in diesel engine maintenance and repair.Familiarity with health and safety regulations in workshop environments.Qualifications:Trade Test Certification as a Diesel Mechanic or equivalent qualification.Valid drivers license.
