Inside Construction have been appointed to recruit a Design Manager for a specialist subcontractor based in Stockport. The company is going from strength to strength and has a strategy for continued growth. They work with tier 1 main contractors across the UK and offer a family feel, relaxed but also professional working environment.
The role
The Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing the design and technical aspects of projects, ensuring they are delivered on budget, in line with programme and fully compliant with project and client specification. This role involves effective management of external consultants and clear communication with the wider team and business partners. The Design Manager must adopt a "best value" approach for all schemes, aiming to minimize costs while maximizing value.
Key responsibilities

Collaborate with the Operations Lead, Project Managers, and Commercial team to ensure the design work is technically effective and efficient across all active sites.
Keep up to date about new and innovative products and evaluate alternative construction methods and practices.
Continuously review the design process and resource organization, seeking opportunities to enhance performance.
Coordinate with the Client's Planning Teams (if applicable) to ensure the issued designs are as technically compliant as possible.
To assist the bid team, review tenders to assess the quality of received information, identify value engineering opportunities and risks, compile consultant costs, and prepare contractor proposals. Ensure the design is translated into an efficient and feasible commercial solution.
Review consultant and sub-contractor drawings and conduct package review meetings with relevant site team members.
Coordinate external consultant in daily duties related to design, coordination, and technical aspects of production information. Ensuring design meets the constraints of time, quality, budget, and technical requirements.
Advance the marked-up drawing pack with the supply chain, overseeing and driving the preparation and issuance of drawings/production information according to the agreed schedule. Upon receipt, ensure the accurate execution of drawings, including QA checking and uploading.
Own the drawing process and oversee document control related to the registration and distribution of design and technical information. Including Revisions/Uploads.
Collaborate with key project team members, including engineers / external partners, in the preparation of project costing and design work, and liaise with clients on design-related matters.

The person
Architectural qualification or an equivalent design, technical, and/or construction-based qualification.
High attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking.
Proven track record in successfully managing all aspects of the technical process, from design stages to the construction of a variety of project types.
Flexibility and dependability to work in diverse and dynamic environments.
Excellent design and technical skills, including proficiency in design software (CAD).
Ability to deliver precise, concise, and coherent drafting on technical issues and explain complex matters to non-specialists.
Strong client management skills, with the ability to engage with consultants, engineers, and third parties in technical discussions.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
