Job description:
Product Conceptualization:Collaborate with the Design Manager to review and refine the design brief. Analyze and extract key goals, outline steps to achieve them, and study market leaders for competitive insights. Define major parameters such as overall length and beam, assist with cost management throughout design phases, and conceptualize models of yacht interiors and exteriors. Create detailed 2D drawings including Interior Arrangement Plans, Outboard Profiles, and Deck Plans. Participate in weight studies, design pack creation, and material specification assignments. Generate materials for publicity purposes
Stakeholder Support:Develop client approval documentation and liaise directly with suppliers for new product development. Work closely with naval architects and interior designers, conduct factory visits, and support prototype builds. Ensure effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholder.
Customer Support:Represent the company in client meetings regarding design issues and attend boat shows as needed to gather insights and showcase designs
Operational Support:Solve design-related problems on existing yacht lines, collaborate with various departments to ensure seamless operations, and pursue continuous improvement for both existing and new product lines. Stay informed on new product launches and boating trends
Skills & Experience:
Design and Engineering Expertise: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in yacht design or engineering, specifically in a composite manufacturing environment.
Technical Proficiency: Extensive knowledge of SolidWorks, EPDM support, and the MS Office package, especially Excel. Advanced skills in SolidWorks modeling.
Business Acumen: Solid understanding of economic viability in design projects and strategic thinking capabilities.
Naval Architecture Knowledge: A background in structural engineering and an understanding of naval architecture.
Boating Experience: Practical experience in both power and sail boating, with a keen eye for styling and interior design.
Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a large design team and foster a collaborative environment.
Requirements:
Education: A minimum of a National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Engineering or a related field. A BTech or Bachelor's degree (NQF Level 7) in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
Additional Skills: Basic knowledge of server maintenance and a strong grasp of business operations related to yacht design and manufacturing.
