My client, a market leader and local manufacturer of low voltage electrical infrastructure, is seeking to employ a DESIGN DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - Electrical Design Engineering Manager Role.Experience:5 years minimum experience in engineering design, preferably in the electrical field.Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.Experience in complex project management.Knowledge of SANS and BS standards applicable to accessories would be an advantage.Experience of working within a multinational organization.The minimum requirements for this position are:Engineering degree in a related field.Desirable to be a professional engineer registered with ECSA (Pr Eng).Technical knowledge gained through vocational and non-vocational training.Skills and Attributes:Design of high-volume electro-mechanical products.Ideally with experience in wiring accessory product ranges.Ideally with knowledge of plastic injection molding, press work, and modern assembly techniques.Project Management and Controls:Experience in project definition, quoting new tools and equipment, good knowledge of project management, and time management discipline.Health and Safety management.Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.Overall Purpose of the Job:Responsible for all aspects of design to ensure business objectives are met.Manage the sourcing of materials and tooling for new products and value-engineered projects in conjunction with purchasing and toolroom.Implement and maintain systems and procedures to ensure the integrity of development and change processes.Achieve high standards of quality, compliance, cost efficiency, and speed to market.Management of Design Engineering Team:Manage expense and project budgets.Manage projects to completion achieving agreed costs in terms of piece price and implementation expenditure....This position will report to the General Manager Operations and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:Strategy and Development:Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice design vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures.Introduction of new technologies to improve business performance.Identify business improvement opportunities.Contribute to new business initiatives, projects, review and communicate the impact on design activities.Maintain a good understanding of international and local standards and specifications.Keep abreast of forthcoming changes and assess the impact on the business.General and Task Management:Provide specialist technical advice and support.Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems.Supervise/manage department facilities ensuring a safe working environment.Ability and willingness to participate in industry standard committees.Oversee work through support departments and manage the workflow through suppliers.Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs).Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.Present Team:3 Design engineers1 Master data AdministratorPeople Management:Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Ensure effective interface with other departmental staff.Communicate with various departments concerning tooling, equipment, and training.Assist with the development and implementation of company goals.Set department objectives/KPIs and review ongoing performance.Report on achievement of targets and identify required actions....Temperament:Excellent leadership, man-management, and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage cross-functional team members.A self-starter, motivated, and able to positively motivate others.Personnel Style:Commands respect within the business, peer group, and market.Competent in problem-solving, team building, planning, and decision-making.Resilient, optimistic, and open to change.Focused and target-driven with a positive, can-do attitude.
