NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: TEACHING & LEARNING POSITION NUMBER: N000664 VACANCY: DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR PEROMNES GRADE: 2 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Develop the NWU Teaching and Learning strategy and facilitate the unitary implementation of the portfolio and academic programme delivery through joint accountability with Executive Deans across a geographically disbursed, multi-campus university. Achieve superior academic excellence through innovative teaching and learning across all modes of delivery that are locally and regionally relevant and responsive, internationally competitive, underpinned by continuous curriculum transformation and renewal.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A PhD (NQF 10).A minimum of 11 years' overall specialist experience in teaching & learning, academic planning and programme management of which 5 years should be operational and 6 years on senior management level.Membership and accreditation with appropriate academic and professional networks.KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: Thorough knowledge of the RSA Higher Education system.Well-developed information and communication technology proficiency.Have the ability to manage resources and finances.Acceptable contract development and management proficiency.Acceptable knowledge of approaches to student access and support and curriculum design and delivery within the applicable academic fields.Aptitude in managing the research-innovation value chain.Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.Ability to lead academic and administrative managers as well as students.Must subscribe to the values of the NWU.Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, plan and evaluate proposals.Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.Proven ability to manage finances, facilities and staff effectively.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: The ability to work in a multilingual and multi campus environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Ability to clearly articulate and explain complex ideas and RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategy Development Co-determine and develop institutional strategy and joint accountability for implementation success.Develop and dynamically re-strategise Teaching and Learning strategy and joint accountability for dissemination and implementation.Advance the Teaching and Learning profile through leadership in academic programme planning and development.NWU size and shape design and development joint accountability, for success model delivery.Represent NWU in relevant forums in industry, councils or committees in the public sector, statutory and professional bodies to initiate national debate, influence policy and regulatory matters and shape public opinion in respect of Teaching and Learning and the NWU.Teaching and Learning Policy and Practice Design and develop Teaching and Learning policy, practice and systems, and joint accountability for implementation and effectiveness.Ensure innovative use of technology and all media, optimum levels of standardisation across sites of delivery, quality assurance and a rich diverse learning experience.Lead and direct an optimum balance in Teaching and Learning and Research and Innovation at NWU, joint accountability with DVC Research and Innovation.Provide strategic leadership in integration of research into Teaching and Learning through new knowledge to deliver professional and employable graduates.Lead and encourage financially strengthening, third stream income generating initiatives.Academic Support Drive value contributing support services and quality assurance practices across NWU for success model delivery.Enforce continuous professional development of academic staff and enhancement of the Teaching and Learning environment.Joint accountability for seamless, virtual, open and integrated Teaching and Learning capability and experience.Cultivate active citizenry, commitment to and respect for the full scope of diversity, scholarship and commitment to students.Academic Planning Develop and dynamically re-strategize the Academic development strategy, and joint accountability for dissemination and implementation.Lead and direct responsive and dynamic PQM development and maintenance for success model delivery.Ensure institutional and academic programme accreditation, transformation and management.Drive interdisciplinary collaboration, inter and intra-campus functioning in respect of Teaching and Learning.Open and Distance Learning Provide Faculty programme support and increased virtual access through investment in innovative teaching and learning and ICT.Lead and direct dynamic and rapid re-positioning of distance learning for success model delivery.Community Engagement Oversee and integrate community engagement into teaching and learning.Relationships Effective academic connectivity, collaboration and relationships for success model delivery (secure foreign funding).Act as custodian for Teaching and Learning, liaison with regional, industry, statutory and professional regulatory bodies.Management and Leadership Strategic oversight, leadership and management in respect of the teaching and learning profile.Team composition, effectiveness and efficiency, productivity and commitment to students and scholarship.Stakeholder relationship development and effectiveness.Corporate governance conformance, reporting and risk management.Budgeting, cost management and cost-effectiveness across faculties, academic and academic-related programs.Unit processes and systems design, utilisation, effectiveness and efficiency.Personal effectiveness, wholeness and development.Values-based behaviour leadership and personal compliance.REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
