Deputy Director: Industry and Environment x 12 Months Contract - Gauteng, PretoriaKey Result Areas: Contribute to the development and growth of the Industrial and Environmental sectors of the bioeconomy:Conceptualise and draft (including implementation) of the Industrial and Environmental Bioeconomy RDI instruments.Promote awareness and public understanding of the Industrial and Environmental sectors of the Bioeconomy.Liaise with stakeholders (industry, academia, agencies, government departments, etc.) within the sectors of the bioeconomy.Contribute to the drafting of Business/Investment case/concept documents and Terms of Reference (ToRs) for the establishment and coordination of the governance structure(s) in support of the implementation plan for the Industrial and Environmental sectors of the Bioeconomy.Support the translation of Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) outputs to grow the Industrial and Environmental Bioeconomy:Facilitate resource investments in support of RDI thematic areas of the industrial and environmental bioeconomy.Conceptualise business development initiatives to support knowledge application, commercialisation, and engagements with supported institutions/agencies (CSIR, TIA, Higher Education Institutions, etc.) to drive RDI translation.Contract and project management of the directorate's investment instruments.Provide support to the achievement of Operational Plan (OP) and Annual Performance Plan (APP) targets:Approved draft annual APP, OP and the Directorate's five-year Strategic Plan.Reporting on APP and OP targets.Regular monitoring of the directorate's OP and APP targets.Provision of support in coordinating and initiating strategic international cooperation within the bio-economy:Scan the environment, and maintain a network of local and international stakeholders (such as policymakers, biobased institutions, and industry) within the sectors of the bioeconomy for the implementation of the Bioeconomy Strategy.Stakeholder engagements held to deliberate on bioeconomy-related partnerships between national, regional and international stakeholders that promote mutual benefit facilitated.Facilitate preparatory documentation for international engagements (e.g., technical documents, briefing notes, etc.).Provide input in strategic advice and professional support on Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology issues for the Bio-Innovation unit, DSI, and SA government:Serve as a point of contact for strategic industrial and environment information and knowledge dissemination.Provide administrative support by writing submissions, cabinet memoranda, briefing notes, etc.Experience: Minimum 3 years working experience in the industry biotechnology sector.
Qualifications: NQF level 6 in Life Science/Technology Management. Bachelor's degree qualification is an added advantage.
Knowledge: Departmental policy and formulation.Knowledge and understanding of the National Science and Innovation.Knowledge of Industry and environment innovation and policies.Understanding of innovation value chains related to industrial and environmental bio-economy.PFMA, PSR, etc.
