Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas DEAN: FACULTY OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic institution that responds to the developmental needs of the local, national, and international context. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is recognized nationally and internationally, producing world-class research and offering specialized undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The Dean is a member of the University's Senior Management team and will be accountable to the Deputy Vice Chancellors: Academic and Research & Innovation. The Dean is responsible for strategically positioning the Faculty and pursuing its strategic goals.
The Dean will lead the Faculty while ensuring it fulfills UWC's mission, forging links with industries, donors, and government; implementing learning and teaching strategies; and overseeing student enrolment processes.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Arts & Humanities or a relevant professional discipline, senior academic leadership experience, and be appointable at a minimum at the level of Associate Professor. A strong track record in research, teaching, fundraising, and community engagement is critical.
Key Competencies: Visionary leadership, excellent interpersonal skills, experience in fostering partnerships, commitment to social justice and transformation, and the ability to nurture and develop staff.
