We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Database Administrator to join our team in Johannesburg. This hybrid role requires three days in the office per week.
Role Purpose:
The Database Administrator will ensure the installation, design, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of databases and associated software products to support operational systems and the development environment. The role aims to ensure the integrity, reliability, efficiency, and security of the enterprise's data.
Responsibilities
Build and Maintain Stakeholder Relationships: Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and ensure their needs are understood and met.
Client Support: Provide first-line support and standby services, acting within the mandate to build client relationships.
Communication: Keep stakeholders informed of database changes and enhancements through progress reports.
Professional Growth: Stay abreast of developments in your field to ensure personal and professional growth.
Align with Vision and Values: Understand and embrace the client's vision and values, leading by example.
Financial Management: Ensure all financial recoveries are captured in the correct financial systems within specified timelines.
Database Performance: Ensure improved database performance through effective monitoring and maintenance.
Version Control: Observe version control procedures, apply fixes, and maintain supplier and user documentation in conjunction with specialists.
Database Activity Monitoring: Monitor database activity to ensure efficient access to data.
Problem Resolution: Resolve work obstacles by providing input on various database integration issues.
Optimization: Participate in the optimization of database performance and resource usage.
Workflow Management: Ensure a smooth workflow and participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and updating recovery plans.
Documentation: Document and implement database-related scripts and queries.
Standards Setting: Participate in setting standards for database administration.
Compliance: Comply with policies, standards, and procedures.
Preventative Maintenance: Identify database problems through online monitoring and preventative maintenance.
Team Collaboration: Contribute to the achievement of team goals.
Professional Development: Prepare for the next level job by actively participating in job shadowing.
Mentoring: Participate in the skills development of junior DBAs by providing technical mentoring to peers.
Qualifications
Advanced Diplomas/National Degree
Database Foundational Certification on domain technologies with DB-related knowledge.
Relevant other qualifications related to the role.
Experience
The ideal candidate should have 4-6 years of exposure to an IT environment with at least 4 years as a DBA.
