DIRECTOR: DATA INTENSIVE RESEARCH INITIATIVE OF SOUTH AFRICA QUALIFICATIONS: A masters degree in science, engineering, or information and communication technology or related fields with at least ten years experience in data science or research and data management A Doctoral degree will be advantageous. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the Data Intensive Research Initiative for South Africa on behalf of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI); Define, design, and provide the entire range of data services across the data lifecycle for the research, education and innovation communities; Grow DIRISA to be a leading organisation within South Africa that advocates for and implements data initiatives across the research community; Establish close working relationships with the Data Sciences community; Provide a robust foundation for data science in South Africa in the 21st century, within which DIRISA can remain sustainable over prolonged time periods; Provide and facilitate a robust network of recognised Tier 1 and associated Tier 2 and 3 infrastructures and services; Build Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) that will impact on the economy; Provide data intensive research leadership, practices and principles that will impact on innovation that stimulates socio-economic growth; Contribute to the NICIS strategy and planning in order to ensure alignment with Data Sciences Community; Support research and higher education (including Research Infrastructures, libraries, etc.) in data intensive initiatives; Foster international partnerships and facilitate South Africas role to promote sharing of data, learning and benchmarking regionally and beyond; Drive operational excellence for long-term sustainability; Manage and oversee DIRISA processes and infrastructure; Manage employees, stakeholder relationships and client expectations; Manage employee relations in collaboration with Data Sciences Community.
