Join CSIR in Pretoria and contribute to our data governance initiatives.Responsibilities:Work with various stakeholders to analyze data requirements, develop data models, and ensure the integrity and security of our data infrastructure.Proactively support defining how the data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities and IT systems.Draft a data governance framework to meet business and technology requirements, ensuring data security and compliance with regulations.Optimize data storage and retrieval, enhance data quality and governance, and guide informed data-driven decisions.Support the translation of business requirements into databases, data warehouses, and data streams.Design and implement data integration and data flow processes for efficient data movement across systems.Analyze, plan, and define data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data.Define and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.Prepare and facilitate data governance communities, workshops, and meetings.Develop and maintain the data governance training setup and ensure relevant business partners are trained and onboarded.Create and implement data management processes and procedures.Evaluate existing data systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend innovative solutions.Define and maintain data standards, definitions, and dictionaries for consistency and interoperability.Support the definition of technical standards and guidelines for data use, security, access, and governance.Provide a standard common business vocabulary and align with enterprise strategy and related business architecture.Create diagrams showing key data entities and maintain an inventory of data needed to implement the architecture vision.Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science.Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:Knowledge of data governance, integration, quality, lifecycle processes, and management best practices.Enterprise-wide view of the business and appreciation for strategy, processes, capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.Ability to prepare, facilitate, and drive forums, communities, workshops, and meetings.Strong communication skills to demonstrate the value of Data Governance and create organizational buy-in.Ability to build relationships and manage business partners across all levels of the organization.Competent in developing communication and training materials for Data Governance.Knowledge in IT domains of information, security, application, technology infrastructure, and integration.Problem-solving and analytical capabilities to safeguard data integrity and security.Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and experience implementing data protection measures.Competent in data modeling techniques, data warehousing concepts, and database management systems.Competent in SQL with experience in database development and performance optimization.
